Ma.gnolia User Data Is Gone For Good 450

miller60 writes "The social bookmarking service Ma.gnolia reports that all its user data was irretrievably lost in the Jan. 30 database crash that knocked the service offline. Ma.gnolia founder Larry Halff recently discussed the crash and the lessons to be learned from Ma.gnolia's experience. A lesson for users: don't assume online services have lots of staff and servers, and always keep backup copies of your data. Ma.gnolia was a one-man operation running on two Mac OS X servers and four Mac minis."

You're correct that "Effect" is a verb, as well as a noun. No one is denying that. However, it does not mean the same as "Affect".

From dictionary.com:

effect (verb): to produce as an effect; bring about; accomplish; make happen
affect (verb): to act on; produce an effect or change in

Or as i like to put it:

The effect (noun) of affecting (verb) something is to effect (verb) a change in it.

An anonymous reader writes "A Dallas newspaper is claiming that the long-in-development title Duke Nukem Forever is headed for retail release in late 2008. Unfortunately, game creator 3D Realms says that's not exactly what they meant. 'What the modest Texas newspaper actually seems to suggest is that 3D Realms is "on target" to release the mythical sequel sometime this year, though company president Scott Miller adds, "we may miss the mark by a month or two" (wink, wink). Miller also hinted that "hitting the big three" (in this case, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3) is the obvious development strategy, but he continued to stress that 3D Realms has not "formally announced any platforms for DNF."'"

Sneakemail, the lovely disposable forwarding email addresses service, seems to be down. Seems the address is not resolving.

And it's horrible. I didn't even make a backup of the addresses! And besides, I was always a great advocate of Sneakemail and recommended everyone to use it.
Bah.

BTW: I am looking for a girlfriend.

I had a blind date. We met at the Book Week.. and she rejected me.. I'm writing this in this place instead of in one of my Hebrew blogs, because she promised she'd date me if I give her the URLs of at least some of my identities - and she doesn't know about this one.
I felt that we might have a future together. But she didn't... it's because she's picky, probably.. and it sucks.
At least she allowed me to play with me with her hair. But I'm so disappointed.

Last time you were in danger, I felt the tension as well. I was monitoring you all the time and couldn't leave my eye off CNN. You can't believe how tense I was all that time. I couldn't do anything else besides being updated about you, until you were over it.

I hope you won't make me tense again.
