Building a Homemade Nuclear Reactor In NYC 219

yukk writes "Mark Suppes, a web developer for Gucci, is working on his own personal fusion reactor. His work in a NYC warehouse using $35,000 of his own money and $4,000 raised on a website has made him the 38th independent researcher recognized as creating a working fusion reactor. How's that for a hobby?"

Err no, the fact that only 3 out of 25 could get to grips with C++ tells us that the class what made up of lower than average students.

It tells me that the class is not made up of people with previous programming experience, but rather people who needed to be taught programing concepts first, not a specific programming language.

And .Net should be avoided, from what I can see Stanford is one of the top CS Unis and in their first year of CS they teach, Java, C (some Assembly), C++, Scheme Python. Those are the langugues that you should know.

Just to clarify, are you stating "Don't learn this, because I think they teach different things in a University in another country"? I quite honestly do not understand the point that you're making.

My A level course taught Pascal. My degree covered Modula-2, Mathematica, Miranda, Prolog, 68000 assembler, and a few more I can't remember offhand. I don't think not having been taught any of these at A level caused me any problems.

So it comes down to doing the right thing or going for the money.

My Guess in the long run, bad for Google. China will at some point of time outstrip the US, specially when they don't open up their markets for example the pegged rmb. Some company will fill the gap in China and they will grow bigger than Google. Look at the telco how big are they :)

This presumes that India take quite a while to come on line - which it looks like they are slow to get the ball rolling.

But cudos to Google, they are doing the right thing which is why I would/do buy from google. and why I feel like I can trust google, keep it up guys you have my support :)

An overview "Fact Sheet" on the proposed FY2011 budget for NASA has been published by the OMB at http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/factsheet_department_nasa/ The Constellation program is cancelled, and this could mean thousands of jobs lost in Florida, Alabama and Texas at the major human space flight centers. The savings from the cuts will be reinvested in new R&D for future exploration.

NYT's "Games To Avoid" an Ironic, Perfect Gamer Wish List 189

MojoKid writes "From October to December, the advertising departments of a thousand companies exhort children to beg, cajole, and guilt-trip their parents for all manner of inappropriate digital entertainment. As supposedly informed gatekeepers, we sadly earthbound Santas are reduced to scouring the back pages of gaming review sites and magazines, trying to evaluate whether the tot at home is ready for Big Bird's Egg Hunt or Bayonetta. Luckily, The New York Times is here to help. In a recent article provokingly titled 'Ten Games to Cross off Your Child's Gift List,' the NYT names its list of big bads — the video games so foul, so gruesome, so perverse that we'd recommend you buy them immediately — for yourself. Alternatively, if you need gift ideas for the surly, pale teenager in your home whose body contains more plastic then your average d20, this is the newspaper clipping to stuff in your pocket. In other words, if you need a list like this to understand what games to not stuff little Johnny's stocking with this holiday season, you've got larger issues you should concern yourself with. We'd suggest picking up an auto-shotty and taking a few rounds against the horde — it's a wonderful stress relief and you're probably going to need it."
