Comment One of these days... (Score 0) 70

I think all of this is based on some fairly serious musculation by the government on where the power lies in this dynamic. Encumbering social media like this doesn't mean you'll sell more newspapers, but these companies are only going to stick around if it's profitable for them to do so. If Google, facebook and others pulled their news services, it would decimate the newspapers in the region, not help them.

Comment I don't think I mind this. (Score 1) 90

In the old days, I would have popped a blood vessel over something like this. Just the inconvenience of it. Having to go back and write new code to adjust to the changing browser landscape. But browsers are always changing. Standards evolve. Things like Javascript, in their current form would have been unrecognizable 20 years ago, and that's sort of the nature of the beast. It's hard to hate Google when they pander as hard to developers as they do. Besides, radical changes in cookies means that people will need to hire devs like me to maneuver around it. Honestly, I'm more worried about user agents going away.

Comment I don't even bother answering my phone anymore. (Score 1) 113

Unless I'm actively in the job market, there's no point. And even then, it makes more sense to communicate by LinkedIn and email. Legitimately starting to wonder why I even own a phone anymore, other than as a handy mobile internet device. If I could get a plan without phone service, I would.
