Journal Otter's Journal: Learning to AIM 6
Since upgrading to MacOS X 10.2.whatever_I_Have_now, I've been looking at the iChat icon sitting patiently in the menu bar. I finally decided to give it a try, and registered for an ID. I got stuck with JsngrO -- pretty sure I had an existing MyNetscape account but apparently it's been deleted.
Step one was to try entering chat rooms. Didn't work at all with iChat (does it not support rooms) so I dl'd the real AIM client. Completely useless -- every single room is wall-to-wall bots advertising porn sites.
Step two, then, is to pick some AIM accounts publically listed on Slashdot user pages. So, FortKnox, Lady Guardian, DaytonCIM -- keep an eye out for me!

I'm working on a cryptographic system that can be embedded in any messaging system, and can be used to send people messages independently of the messaging system they're on.
I'm thinking of calling it 'CAKE' for Key Addressed Crypto Encapsulation. (Yes, I know the acronym is an anagram).

AIM is like Cellphones. (Score:2)
However. The benefit you get from it increases logarithmically (sp?) with time. Once people become used to the fact that you are hyperavailable, you get a wonderful sort of late-binding social interaction that you'd totally miss out on otherwise.
And that's a good thing, really.
