  • While I agree us atheists can get strident, it's hard not to be paranoid when there's still plenty of religious-driven persecution in the world.

    I don't know about you, but living with the knowledge that there's easily a billion people I share space with on this planet who would quite happily
    • a) kill me
    • b) inflict pain & damage, both physicall and psychologically, as a tool to "convert" me
    • c) imprison me
    • d) segregate and/or disenfranchise me
    • e) all of the above

      you really think 1 in 7 people feels that's the best way to deal with their metaphysical beliefs? could be i suppose, but it seems high to me.
      • Perhaps. But here's an exercise. Let's take that number down a little to be on the safe side: a million.

        That's still too many people. Plus, and I probably should have specified this in my post, quite a large number of these people hold very powerful positions in finance, military and government and other positions of power. Tell me that doesn't worry you sometimes.

    As an ordained Taoist, I'd like to:
    • 1) Point out that not all "religions" involve deity worship. The best example is true Buddhism. Whilst the Buddha speaks of being "asked to stay and teach" by a "deity," said "deity" confirms that Deity Worship is 'Optional' and does not affect Enlightenment! (Or KDE, or Gnome)
