Journal Otter's Journal: New Slashdot interface... 5

I usually like to give site redesigns a few weeks before passing judgment on them, to give me a chance to get used to the new one. Especially when the old one is as familiar as Slashdot is.

That said, the new type is just too damn small! And much too much whitespace. I'll still give it some time before I start fiddling, but it's giving me a headache right now.

New Slashdot interface...

Comments Filter:
  • Headers are too heavy as well, each comment looks as if it is a new section of the page. Even in this JE the header "Journal of Otter" and the title "New Slashdot interface..." appears more like sections of the page than a parent/child structure.
    • Also, the nesting of comments isn't nearly deep enough. The old design maybe had a little too much indentation, but with the new design I find it very difficult to follow thread structure.

I have made a couple of usability adjustments.

Using a firefox addin called Stylish [mozilla.org] I have dynamically added the css listed below (I think it can just be added into the userchrome.css or whatever as well if the addin isn't wanted)

It fixes the font size and also moves the "Read More..." link back to where it should be.
No luck so far on changing the indent amount, but I am starting to see whats so nice about this style.

The Score area doesn't appear to want to move cleanly either, when I forced it to the left
