Comment Fire Hazard (Score 1) 377

I live in Southern California as well but we come from the cold country and still manage to put 2 cars in a double garage. I might consider an EV were it not for the fire hazard of having an EV in your garage. The potential of one of those LI powered, charging EVs lighting off in my garage and destroying my house (and me) totally puts me off from ever buying an EV. T2

Ok, lets consider intelligence, artificial or "real". Lets feed the AI all the books of learning from Dick and Jane all the way up to a PHD in your choice. One copy each. From your local/high school/college book store. I'm sure the AI people would not object to the cost so far. The lets set the AI up with a normal speed internet connection and let it explore for, say 10 hours per day. Ok, so now, we have a trained AI. I see no copyright issues here not found in a child genius with a perfect memory. T2

Not an issue. When you get to checkout, you pay the latest price. Unless you kept that log I mention above. You kept that time stamped log, didn't you? Could have 3 prices in play. When you pick up the first item, the second and when you finally get to the checkout stand. You kept that log didn't you?

Comment No practical difference for the buyer (Score 1) 229

Since pretty much all retail above the mom & pop level have eliminated item pricing and gone to bar code pricing, the automation of price changes will have little if any practical effect on the consumer. It would take a very special consumer to carefully log the shelf price of each item as it goes into the basket and then compare that log with the scanned price at checkout. I really wonder how many retailers have been prosecuted under the laws forbidding charging more at the register than the shelf label.

Comment An AI is an employee (Score 1) 116

An AI as we have come to know and perhaps fear it is an employee of those (Microsoft, Google, Amazon, DOD etc)who train, feed and house it. An AI must be trained with data, provided with cpu/memory and power to "live" and is provided by it's employer with access to the levers and controls of the world outside. Look to the employers to provide wisdom, values and morals to their AI employees as we look to parents, schools and society to provide morals, values, wisdom to our children.
