Slashdot limits rules seem to be implemented to work entirely without relevant context. I once got banned for too many downmods on a post, altho the net was only -1. Half a dozen voices, by themself, should not be able to get one banned.

that seems like an insane waste of time. There was a time when I thought there was even a slim possibility of having an online discussion that had even had a chance of being productive, but... that didn't last long.

Actually, it turned out to be productive in a *VERY* surprising way. One of the guys I was debating with came up with a job offer so good that even though I didn't need it, I forwarded the link to the Programmer's Guild mailing list, where just about *everybody* has the skill set he was looking for (mere C pointer math as it relates to strings- NOT a big deal, but the person arguing with me was *seriously* in need and willing to pay just about anything to get more engineers with that skillset).
