Even if the company has access to credit card numbers, why do call center employees have access to them? I can't think of a reason for them to be able to see the entire number. Maybe the last four digits in order to verify someone over the phone.

Most of that interaction is done via a website though, where it doesn't really matter if there are people awake on the other end. Sure, if you have to call for support, it may matter, but most of my days are spent concerned with local time (outside of programming, but I don't think we should change how the world works to make code easier!)
