Take a look at New Zealand. Their leader is also not a king (or queen) but worked with officials at all levels/experts to ensure the safety of their citizens. Ardern followed medical/public health advice and locked down the country to eradicate COVID-19. The US is a lot bigger than NZ so the situation is not exactly identical but the pandemic could have been better contained with the measures below:

1) Trump could have trusted health experts and scientists
2) Not downplay COVID-19 and take the threat seriously. Not say it's going to go away by "Easter".
3) Shutdown borders to non-residents and enforce 14 day quarantine periods for all return travellers
4) Early testing - testing in the US was delayed by weeks as Trump refused to accept WHO test kits
5) Not give medical advice - eg. "bleech or sunlight can kill COVID-19, have we looked at that?"
6) Set an example. If CDC officials recommend masks then wear a damn mask to encourage citizens to do the same
7) Do not make states compete for access to PPE and encourage "middle men" to distribute PPE to make a profit!

Trump has essentially done nothing useful to help the US in this pandemic. Any rational leader would have done a combination of the above. So please do not say that he's done everything that he could because that's complete and utter BS!

I am not an American but viewing this as an outsider, it is a catastrophic failure with so many lives unnecessarily lost.

What pisses me off is that many Americans vote for Bush because they claim he is consistent with his values and they are against Kerry because he changes his mind. What would you rather have...someone who is consistently an idiot or someone who has the sense to change their opinions based on new information?
