I feel you must have missed the first part of my rather short post where it says "According to the actual report, the data only goes back to 1950" I'm not saying there isn't any useful data going back further than that, just that they are saying this June was the "hottest on record" but the "record" they are using only goes back to 1950. If they had said it was the "hottest since 1950" I'd have no problem with it. The fact that they aren't going further back than that makes their claim of it being the hottest on record rather suspect. They could have gone back further, but didn't. Why not? Is it because of an assumption that it was never hotter before 1950 or was it because if they had gone back more it would no longer be the hottest on record and that wouldn't make much of a story? Or even some other reason. They didn't say they used that year as the baseline.
