Three recent patent filings suggest that Apple has a super version of backup on its mind. Someone would be able to go into an application (like iTunes or the App Store), find what material was available at a previous time, and recover any or all of what once was there without having to use a separate recovery program.

Jobs might like this as a gateway to get an 'Apple Product' onto other mobile and computer devices, but unless he found someone to run it with the same energy as he's putting into product development, then it would be a wash. He might look for other ways to get in on social networking, but this is way too big, and will water down their core business....

Pope Benedict XVI has warned that people are in danger of being unable to discern reality from fiction because of new technologies, and not old books. "New technologies and the progress they bring can make it impossible to distinguish truth from illusion and can lead to confusion between reality and virtual reality. The image can also become independent from reality, it can give birth to a virtual world, with various consequences -- above all the risk of indifference towards real life," he said.
