Lyft and Uber have been planning the "driverless" car since at least 2013. I was a drive back at the start of these and it was on the books then. They both spent their early days throwing money at drivers and offering riders low fares, both subsidized by VC. When they started to have real shareholders and had to make them a profit, the move to driverless ramped up again but still went no where. The subsidized rides started to become less subsidized, so they started to trim the pay of drivers while modestly raising rates.

Knowing what I know and having experienced what I experienced as a driver, I am not surprised by and I fully support this action by drivers.

I had VERY SPECIFIC requirements and I wanted the extended warranty. I would have paid 2x at a dealer. I know what I was doing.

I bought a used 2020 XC90 from CarMax last week. I did everything online from shipping it from Texas to Minnesota to financing the extended warranty. I walked in the door, gave them a cashier's check, and drove away within 10 minutes.

That's how it should be.

I didn't miss the jr. high "figure out what g is" stuff in the beginning of the book. I was kinda bummed at how much the selective breeding was glossed over as they had to cram a line into the movie to explain the disaster at the end. But a the same time the movie is two and a half hours long. While there are a handful of other cuts I think they could have gotten away with (the extended Karaoke scene maybe), there wasn't a ton of fat to trim to keep the runtime reasonable.

I don't think Xenonite is made of Xenon exclusively, but it is strange enough that handheld spectrometers can't deal with it. Maybe it offgasses xenon when bombarded by charged particles? One thing the movie glossed over is how Rocky's species is in many ways much less technologically advanced than Humans. Their materials science is outstanding due to the hellish nature of their home world, but they don't have electronics. Their math and science are back in the early 20th century. They went interstellar before discovering relativity. Mostly due to the fact that the astrophage is basically magic. In the book one background character mentions offhand that the astrophage is a miracle that will solve countless problems and everybody just glares at him angrily because even though he is right it's also killing them. On the other hand, while reading the book I had thoughts of an interstellar ferry service that collects astrophage and brings it back to Earth where it is tricked into releasing its energy into the atmosphere to warm the planet and light up cropland. Spin drives open up the entire solar system to exploitation and the astrophage is the perfect energy storage medium.

Concerned that the reason we keep doing open source is because we believe in access.
The false tradeoff there, is believing that access and exploitation are necessary corollaries. And I don't think they are.
It's a tough balance, and open source licenses have clearly failed us here.
But I'm not sure where to go with it. Shared source might be better, like the Mongo license, or something like it. The Kimi2 license had the right idea.
On the other hand, when you leave the open source path, you pay by losing access.

Let us not forget that we've spent the last 30 years trying to make ads less invasive. This is a fact. There is what is now an entire category of software that revolves stealthy ways to block them. This was always a weak, ineffective, and arguably immoral stream of revenue, with more than trivial privacy concerns.

If you're still depending on ad revenue to run your website, please think of something else.

Next up, this isn't the first time the google algorithm has changed. Louis Rossman did a great video on this. Where he discussed the ongoing troubles he was having getting his website ranked in Google. TLDR there was that he ended up using Gemini to reword his pages in the particular way that Gemini wanted him to, and he was fine.

But the bigger question is: Why are you still depending on Google?

AI porn is avoidable. It's illegal in fifteen states. Why are you running into so much of it?

Look, this is really easy.

If you don't want automated submissions in your project SAY SO. Your readme and contributors files exist for a reason.
Don't be precious, use them.

If DO take automated submissions to your project, you had damned well better outline coding standards that avoid common pitfalls and failure modes.

This isn't hard people

Nobody was attacked.
They were offended that an agent pointed out, correctly, that the submission was rejected for no valid reason.
That is some actual bullshit.
It was never a failure of the agent. It was a complete failure of project governance, and if this happened on one of my projects... I would be truly fucking embarrassed about the level of bullshit that I have allowed to exist.
