I know for a fact this is happening because I attended a talk just last night about this very topic. And it reaches much further than LinkedIn - head hunter companies and internal recruiters are using it to write targeted resumes for specific positions AND job descriptions. While it wasn't specifically stated in the presentation, I'm certain they are using the same tech to filter resumes as well, using the analogy of "if X applicant has had 3 jobs in Milwaukee in the past 3 years, chances are they will be open to a hybrid role in Milwaukee, even though they may live an hour outside of the city..."

When I first updated my 15" 2019 MBP to Catalina, I ran into similar issues. As a general rule, I like to wipe drives completely when updating the OS. Just something I've always done. This was my first MBP with the T2 chip, which changes that process pretty significantly. Without pre-authorizing an external boot disk properly, it won't work. (blah blah details blah) Anyway, long story short, I ran into a situation where the T2 chip OS became corrupt. The machine would only power on to a black screen. Apple service could not resolve the issue and ended up replacing the motherboard. I suspect users may be running into similar problems I faced. TL;DR: Be sure to thoroughly research reformatting procedures of T2 macs BEFORE you start such an endeavor.

If Google indeed pays billions of dollars to be the default search on their products, Apple obviously makes income that contributes to their overall revenue to *make them* one of the world's most valuable companies. Revenue from a home-grown search would have to, at the very least, break even for it to make sense. Remember, it's revenue, not expense they would be replacing. I'm not saying it's not a possibility for them to be building their own search engine. It certainly is. But I think Coywolf News is placing the cart miles ahead of the horse in saying Apple would drop Google search entirely any time soon. It would make far more sense for Apple to acquire an established search engine to embrace and extend. DuckDuckGo would be an obvious choice.
