You don't have to remember 2008 to have had your life impacted by it during your formative years.

The students still get grades the first year, so they can accurately assess where they are at without penalizing them for going to a shit high school that passes everyone.

At U of M, that's more of a community service.

I basically did nothing in high school because good grades didn't matter. As far as I was concerned, it was pass/fail.

If it were me entering college where first year grades don't count, I would just extend that strategy another year.

Honestly, unless you are worried about falling behind and not understanding the material (never a problem I had), it is the rational decision to make.
