the City of Seattle is worse-than-third-world for it's internet. Literally the only options are dialup, ISDN, Cellular, and sometimes Satellite (assuming you have a place to install a dish).

Which is insane since all of the surrounding cities (Kirkland, Bellevue, Renton, Everett, and all the other cities that make up the "Seattle Metropolitan Area") have readily-available cable, mostly from Comcast, with at least a 100mbps tier available.

Your best course of action is to move the fuck out of the City of Seattle.

Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) is a videogame tournament. In this particular case, they're referring to the "League of Legends" portion of the tournament.

Mark Cuban is a rich guy who owns a sports team and is on some TV show called Shark Tank or something. He participated in the event by playing a showmatch with four popular League of Legends players on his team, vs Brian Krzanich (Intel CEO) and four more popular LoL players.

"fuck" is usually banned from broadcasts. In this case, there's no legal reason for it, but it is likely ESL (tournament host) policy to keep the broadcast clean.

As an aside, the showmatch was a huge letdown. Cuban clearly had no idea what was going on, but wanted to play well and was trying his best, following instruction from the pros with him. Brian K clearly had never played a videogame before and didn't try to learn.

I've literally been spammed with ads for System 76 laptops for about 10 months now... because 10 months ago I searched for the best laptop I could that worked under Linux for cheap (System 76 was far outside my price range).

Haven't searched for anything laptops or linux since, still the most common ad I see, being on probably 75% of all sites I visit.

If you have Comcast, you probably don't actually live in Seattle.

Internet in the Seattle Metropolitan Area (Kirkland, Bellevue, Renton, Burien, etc) is fine.

Internet in the City of Seattle is often OFFENSIVELY bad (LTE, ISDN, Satellite, Dialup, and in some cases 768mbps DSL being the options).

It's because the City of Seattle is legitimately insane and demands that any new company that wants to provide infrastructure must pay for all repairs/maintenance that the previous companies have neglected. So no one is willing to build infrastructure there because they'll never turn a profit.

And, you know, this isn't exactly big new news...

Windows 8.1 with Bing has been around for a while.

the important takeaway is that THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE VERSIONS is that THE OEM cannot change the default search software prior to sale. THE END USER CAN CHANGE WHATEVER THEY WANT STILL.

This is a good thing, anything that brings the price of the OS down for the average joe is a good thing. And maybe, if we're lucky, the Chromebooks will have to step up their game to compete with real Windows.
