Alright, "any system except whatever 40 cent processor you're thinking of." Don't expect anything from an AMD Sempron, okay? I'll concede that my language was too broad.

Obviously if the difference is too extreme, then you're wasting money, but if it's only a little limited and can run all your games I promise you won't die from it.

I assumed the previous narrative's definition of a "Gaming Computer", was a brand-new pre-built high-spec system. Obviously, it doesn't need to be that to play games or even be called a Gaming Computer. My point is that the choice isn't between that and nothing if you want to play new games. You can still play do that for pretty cheap if you manage expectations. Any system with a fast PCIE lane will do really (so get a desktop).

I agree on a surface level. Gaming computers are prestige items. Any decent computer from the last decade can play the most demanding AAA games, including brand new releases. If you don't want to start from scratch, find yourself a used CAD workstation. Keep the Quadro or replace it with a 5-year-old used gaming card. Stuff it with at least 16 GB of DDR4 (don't worry about 5) and you're good to go.

There is something unsettling about how that keeps happening. When nothing is our fault, can even the accomplishments be claimed?

If this guy was elevated above others unfairly, consider that he may have played along knowingly, faking it till he made it. He is not a victim of the dredded white liberal, but of his own ethical failings.

And thatâ(TM)s only if the allegations are true.

I work with people who cannot touch-type. They hunt and peck. Some donâ(TM)t even understand file systems. Perpetuating that inability by restricting computer access for students is sure to encourage AI dependency later on.

That said, what students need to learn doesnâ(TM)t always require Internet access. Teach them file systems, basic troubleshooting, typing, word processing, and spreadsheets. Then have an internet class with special attention given to security threats and scams.

Outside of that, yeah, no computer. Issue stock basic TI 83 Plus calculators and teach students to write notes in shorthand.

And at any point MS can just turn it back on during an update.

That won't be a real problem for you though, since your personal files probably aren't stored on C. I bet most users here put everything on a second drive (or partition) and leave the first to Windows and software. They also use File History or a high-quality third-party backup program and check on it semi-regularly. They also don't use Edge, nor have much interest in what's on the Microsoft store. They also have a unique password for their Microsoft account, since not doing that would invite trouble anyway. They also remembered to keep their 48digit recovery key in a safe place just in case.

The affected are everyone else, but the real danger to their data is themselves, not Microsoft. If anything, Windows (cloud) Backup behaving the way it does is a net positive. It won't capture everything. It'll need to be upgraded once full. And yeah, it's annoyingly on by default... but that is annoying to *us*, not them.

It's ebbed and flowed since then, but you're basically right. In the '90s we had welfare work reform, don't ask don't tell, NAFTA/free trade, bipartisan fear of Satanism, and no legitimate talk about decriminalizing drugs. Everyone went to church, atheists were controversial, and you could still ruin your career in Hollywood by coming out.

It's understandable that people aren't super interested in returning to that, even if might mean winning back the South or keeping the Rust Belt. Still, you have to meet people where they are... and if you don't, something else - maybe something worse - will.
