Apple rewrote its OS as a layer on top of Linux maybe 25 years ago.
To clarify, OS X was descended from NeXTSTEP, which was built on Mach and BSD.

The amount of necessary components and the stringent control over the process rules this out for most manufacturers that don't have Apple's budget. Any of the bigger PC manufacturers could have done this eons ago but they don't have the organizational structure to make it a reality nowadays. The people here who could do this sort of work are either already at Apple or doing other things nowadays.I see posts about Framework but that's not enough, maybe if they get a bigger budget and are willing to invest in Linux/Freedesktop etc. All that said, who knows.. I'm trying to lessen my dependence on Apple hardware and their ecosystem and threw Fedora on an old Thinkpad p52s, using it as a desktop for the last couple of weeks. I'm tempted to start pulling code and writing patches as well but I wish I did have that laptop or hardware combo target.
Are you referring to the president who humiliated himself and the US at Helsinki? The president who had a negotiation regarding the Ukraine war without including Ukraine? The president who admires Putin? That president?
By disrespect, you will never earn it!
Gaslighting may sound crazy at first, but you'll soon realize *everything* you've been told about bullying has been wrong and that most people really enable it!
You can spot predatory behaviour by someone acting initially like this:
1. Confident and inquisitive of you
2. Gives you their "war stories" about how disparaging and taking advantage of others is "fun"
3. The whole dazzle and charming phase (don't worry it won't last long)
Soon they'll turn around:
1. Abuse your trust and any information to turn it against you
2. Doing the same "fun" things to you!
3. Not respond to you as a person, exclusion and complain about you behind your back
In workplace there are some bullies that try to take down "slackers". If you use more energy to more visibly prove yourself to everyone, they'll go for easier prey. Depends more on actual workplace circumstances and supportive environment though. Can take concerted effort over several years to change bad workplace dynamics. You can threaten to complain to HR, but never ever go through with it!!
Definitely a somber kick off to what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend. Terrible news, i'll always remember the early days of Slashdot as a community of well intentioned budding techs who thought we knew it all... Slashdot was our hub; and roblimo our conductor... That time will always fill me with fondness.
Actually, the protest are because unarmed men, women and children are being killed and not receiving justice. So far, most of the people these protest are about haven't broken any law and further for the outliers; As a nation, we don't kill our citizens when they break the law. We bring them to the altar and scales of justice. As an ex soldier, I find your commentary appalling as well as the behavior of anyone who is against these football players protesting. It's absolutely shameful.
Maybe. I believe the media exploit from a year or two ago on Android was patched on phones assumed abandoned by OEMs.
Sadly, for many customers they rely on the goodwill of their OEM and telco to provide serious patches. I expect shops like Samsung, Lenovo/Moto, LG, Sony, and HTC to patch pretty much any phone sold in the past 3 years or so.
Budget buyers, no-name brands, etc are most likely going to be hacked constantly until they replace the phone. KRACK is bad but WPA-AES means they can't inject data and that's on top of TLS blocking that as well. Blueborn, on the other hand, is much more serious and could provide root remotely.
I was going to say a KIM-II (6502, hex keypad input, 8-digit 7-segment display output) was my first computer, but your post reminded me that my parents got me a Geniac (or possibly its clone, a Braniac) for Christmas one year when I was in high school. I don't remember what I programmed it for.
FORTUNE'S FUN FACTS TO KNOW AND TELL: A black panther is really a leopard that has a solid black coat rather then a spotted one.
