My wife was excited to see Dust Bunny and so we went to the theatre. 20 minutes after showtime the movie still hadn't started. When we went to ask, they told us the system wasn't allowing the movie to play and they were on the phone with tech support. We got a refund and eventually saw it a few months later at home. So DRM killed our theatre experience.

Felt like a solid buy for the kids as they get just old enough to use "real" computers. I had left Apple behind, both phone and computer due a culmination of annoyances. Low ram and expensive storage was the big one for their laptop line. Lack of OLED screens as well.

But the Neo had us buying two for the kids. It seems like a great starter computer that should hopefully last them most of their pre-college schooling.

That they have been allowed to continue to operate like a bank, with none of the actual regulation of a bank, demonstrates the ongoing lack of meaningful regulation in the U.S. Companies can generally do what they want, and us poor sods in the "richest" country have to rely on the Europe to actually engage in any sort of meaningful regulation or accountability.

Is it really any surprise that a non-profit primarily funded by tech companies would say this. Their funding and existence are at stake if people shift to other majors, so of course they are going to push a counter narrative to try to keep people flowing into tech. Tech companies want maximum amount of choice in the labor pool so they can continue to pit us against each other push salaries down. None of them will give two cents about replacing any of us with AI once the tech is sufficiently advanced. Then they'll find some new way to try to gaslight us about it.

Apple has no interest in anything that will make their platform more open or in any way more fair. The took frickin' 6 years to implement RCS on iPhone, all to protect iMessage and keep people locked into iPhone. They can get fucked.

I will "buy" video games, generally from GOG and Steam because both have long histories of making sure your purchases stay in your libraries. I will also "buy" from Bandcamp because I can get flac and know all my music can be backed up anywhere I want it.

I have not "bought" a movie in over a decade specifically because of crap like this. Same with ebooks. Both movies and ebook DRM is so egregious in forcing you to consume purchases in very specific ways, with specific apps that I have opted out completely. I want to read my books on any device I want with any reader I want, and I want to play my movies on any device I want with any player I want. So I do. I just don't "buy" them anymore. Being a part of multiple public libraries in my system is especially great for ebooks.

Moment I could get fiber I put Comcast and their data caps in my rear view. They are one of the most despised companies year after year for a reason. It will be hard to come back from that, and I wish them all the worst, because they are awful.

What a dystopian hellscape we American's live in that an insurance company can claim a prosthetic arm is "cosmetic." And have two appeals find the same. The system is corrupt from top to bottom. Someone else funding it is not a "feel good" story. It is an indictment of the pathetic state of for profit health care in the US. We need to have more direct action in this country.

I'm all for inclusion. But ignoring factors with a scientific and statistical basis because it hurts people in the feels is not the way to help under served communities or racial groups. This seems very much like the kind of attempt at inclusion that will lead to worse outcomes for those it is attempting to help.

We were pretty much stuck with Comcast for the first two years at my current place. In that time our service costs more than doubled. We tried calling to see about getting a better rate or modifying our service but they wouldn't do anything for us. Then fiber came down our street and we ditched Concast first chance we got. My wife used to be a social worker and routinely had to deal with Comcast and their predatory practices towards those with low income. Looking forward to their hopefully inevitable decline. There's a reason they consistently make the list of most hated companies.

Not all that long ago, there were clauses in the contract that allowed users of Unity to continue using old versions under old terms, And even get bug fixes for the old versions under those terms. Those clauses were removed a little while ago, probably in preparation for these shenanigans. Already released games may be able to dodge the terms. I don't remember what the average game release cycle is, but I believe it is years at this point. So games currently in late development with Unity, that intend to release next year, are probably utterly and totally screwed. And the per install charges are not small, they are 0.20 a download, which can add up fast.

C# has quite a few of these terser syntax shortcuts. While I like them, and use them, they don't make the language easier to learn, they make it harder. Many times you can be left guessing as to what the voodoo behind the scenes is for a particularly terse code segment. As a beginner, you are far more likely to run into shortcut code samples and then have to go learn why it was written that way and what it actually means.

From an understanding point of view, verbose is better. Hiding concepts from people, like static as pointed out in the example, doesn't make things easier to understand, it just makes them seem more mystical. Which in turn, makes it harder to learn.

If they are locked, chances are they were stolen. And if that's the case, shouldn't they be working with Apple to make sure there is a system in place to reunite stolen goods with their owners? But I guess resellers feel it makes more sense to complain and get a click bait article, rather that do the right thing.

What I find interesting about most of your complaints is they seem to support the idea that managers are an obstacle to the org being better. Even as a manager yourself, you were disempowered from doing your job effectively by the idiot managers above you. So managers in essence were still the problem even when you were one yourself.
