Journal Journal: Oh I love BIOS Upgrades!

BIOS upgrades are so fun! I was having a problem with Windows on my laptop. The tech support guy (via phone) suggested updating the BIOS. Okay. Whatever. I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. Well, after we got off the phone, I finally got it working. Yeah!

Unfortunately, when I booted in Linux a little later, I had an ever so small problem. X kinda sucked. I could have 1024x768x8bpp or 640x480x16bpp. Okay... After a little bit of looking I found the problem.

My video card (Intel 82845G) uses shared memomry. 8 megs of shared memory. For some reason, Dell had hardcoded into the BIOS that the computer only had 1 meg of video memory. Thus far I haven't been able to remedy this. It really sucks. Until I find a solution I'm going to be in Windows or the SuSE Console. :(

Journal Journal: All my thoughts I should have being journaling all along...

Okay, Journalling is kinda neat. It gives me a chance to share my thoughts with either the only people who can understand or the only people who can flame me, actually having some idea what they're talking about.

I'm typing this on a Dell Inspiron 1100, running SuSE 8.2. This has to be one of my favorite linux flavors yet. I might decide to forget about downloading Mandrake 9.2. No, I'll still download it. Anyways....

Right now I'm a mutt geek. Part Microsoft, Part Linux, and even a little BeOS. I'm hoping to become an Apple geek, though. I really do love those apples.

iTunes for Windows came out about 4 days ago. It has a very simply, and intuitive interface. I really love that thing. Wish I could make it run under WINE, though.

Today there have been 4 stories about Microsoft on Slashdot. Really kinda wierd.

Any software developers out there? What's it like in the industry? How hard is it really to get in? That's what I'm thinking about doing with my career, after I leave college.

No SCO stories in a day or so. Really starting to get worried. I believe that is one of the signs of the apocolypse. Oh well.

Night yall.
