I would login to Minnesota Fats BBS, check forums and play Tradewars, but some, like Randall and Brian, were actual computer nerds who knew Basic and other things. Randall had a computer and modem at his house, but he tended to take the most time and beatings. Brian started a computer repair business and then went to work for Microsoft. Randall did (does) computer stuff too in the bay area, but I lost touch.
