Comment Hunting and gathering by a different name (Score 1) 90

Society is morphing back into a nomadic hunting and gathering phase. The environment has changed, becoming a technological ecosystem, but the practice is the same. You will need to hunt for your own food, you'll need to gather your own supplies. It's already happening in the creative industries at a large scale and it will trickle down to everything else. Every worker will be a free agent, living by their own rules, finding opportunities where they can before moving on. On one hand ability well supersede credentials, but on the other there will be no safety net or structure in resource limited environments. After sometime we will all be homeless wanders again, living in modular housing, hacking our way to survival.

Submission + - Your brain has a hidden beat — and smarter minds sync to it (sciencedaily.com)

alternative_right writes: Using EEG recordings and cognitive testing, researchers discovered that it s not constant brainwave synchronization that matters most, but the brain s ability to dynamically adapt its rhythms like a well-tuned orchestra. This flexible neural harmony seems to be a hidden engine behind attention, reasoning, and intelligence.

Comment Computer room brawl (Score 1) 192

Yes and we would brawl for a computer time during lunch. I would login to Minnesota Fats BBS, check forums and play Tradewars, but some, like Randall and Brian, were actual computer nerds who knew Basic and other things. Randall had a computer and modem at his house, but he tended to take the most time and beatings. Brian started a computer repair business and then went to work for Microsoft. Randall did (does) computer stuff too in the bay area, but I lost touch.
