Journal Em Emalb's Journal: tha weekend recap (and a poll too) 23

So there it went. Another weekend past. Man, remember how time seemed to take forever when we were little?

Now I feel like it's slipping away. :)

Times have changed.

Anyway. Friday night Jen and I went to our favorite lil Mexican joint (note I didn't say Tex-Mex. YUCK) and had a couple beers (Modelo Especial) and some grub. Went home, relaxed for a bit, went to sleep. Then it was up at 8am, cut the grass, started cleaning the house (what's with the white counters eh? I'd like to shoot whomever decided to make white counters standard in homes. The better to see the stains, my precious), then went and got several hairs cut. Once that was done, Jen and I headed to the store, picked up some sweet and some spicy brats to go with the burgers I was cooking. Gave them a beer bath, grilled them up and then the fellas came over for the weekly poker night. The pot that night was only $30, but hey, it's worth playing for. It came down to Jen and I at the last. I was getting short-stacked, the blinds were $200 and $400 and I wasn't getting any cards. Finally went all in with a Ace Queen suited, clubs. Jen calls with Jack 8 suited (clubs). She then proceeds to flop a damned straight. Figures. At least we kept the money in the family :)

That was fun. Went to sleep. Woke up, ate some lunch, decided to go see The Bourne Supremacy. I tell you what, a lot of people apparently didn't like this movie. I certainly did. Lots of cool lil tech, some cool booby traps, etc. Yeah, the plot was a little weak, but hey, what did you expect? Anyway, I give this movie 3.5 stars. It was entertaining, and I had a good time watching it. So I recommend you go see this movie. Not bad. BTW, anyone else think Matt Damon does a pretty decent job as an action flick guy? I was surprised. Anyway.

The poll:

My hair type:

A) thick, curly mass

B) thick straight mass

C) thin going on bald

D) long

E) short

F) not it's natural color

G) not there

H) other

  • Hey, you wanted to know! :)

    • Me too.

What is the evolutionary benefit to this? I managed just fine without hair in my nose and ears until I started thinning on top a few years ago, so why do I need it now?
It's not like it makes either of those orifi work any better, and it certainly doesn't help me attract the opposite sex. Maybe the increased heat loss from the top of the head is counteracted by less heat loss through ears and nose.

It used to be long and wavy many years ago, but I keep my head shaved (cause it's cheaper and easier to maintain). I do know that I'm not showing any signs of male-pattern baldness. My friends that are complain all the time that since I shave mine, they should be able to grow theirs in. :)

  • Well, not quite straight. A bit wavy. Whenever I get a haircut, three observations/questions will ensue:

    1) You have a lot of hair. (no shit)
    2) Is this wave natural? (no. I decided to make the sides straight and the back wavy on purpose.)
    3) Do you dye your hair? (I hate this one. Apparently my natural hair color has the appearance of an obvious dye-job.)
    • C'mon, admit it. You just went to a really shitty hairdresser in Har-Mar and are trying to cover up the damage. *ducks*

To lessen the blow of that pointed remark, I will hereby admit that at one time I did, in fact, have a mullet. Though in my defense it wasn't willingly. I actually did go to a really shitty hairdresser in Har-Mar...

Oh, uh, I'll answer E) and I) thin straight mass, thinning a little on top. Shortish, used to be rather long years ago (down to my shoulders).

      Cheers,

      Ethelred

      • I couldn't if I wanted to. Har Mar's hours are something like 2:00-4:00. In the morning. On Sunday. I don't see how they make any money if their stores are never open. Well, I suppose there is that flea market they set up in the middle. But I promise I didn't get my haircut there.

What are you talking about? Har-Mar is a flea market. ;-)

I always wondered what kept the place going, too -- even the cinema's kinda run down and icky.

Pretty strange place, really -- looks like it was literally cobbled together out of a couple of strip malls or something, with a roof slapped onto it as an afterthought. It's not like there are many wonderful stores there, either. My parents just go to Cub Foods in Har-Mar once in a whi

Nothing is weirder than the sparkly gold bathrooms at the Har Mar 1-3, with the stalls that each have their own sink. It's like there was a glitter surplus, so they decided to paste it to the walls.

When did Rainbow Midway bite the dust? I just went to the liquor store next door* on Saturday, and it was there. And there's always the Midway Cub.

Do your parents live in my neighborhood? Maybe I should stalk them. That would be fun. Except that I don't like ha

Eh? Maybe it reopened...? I coulda sworn they told me the Rainbow had closed and that's why they went to the Har-Mar Cub nowadays.

I do remember them saying Rainbow went tits-up and then was bought by someone who closed down a bunch of the stores. Maybe I'm getting my memories mixed up.

And there's always the Midway Cub.

Been to that one, and it has the strangest floor layout of all time IMO

  • Used to be wavy, but now its simply fading.
  • Short and thin, but kind of in a holding pattern so I won't say I'm balding. /me knocks on wood
    • I'm the same way. Have been forever.

I have thin hair, but it's been in a holding pattern at appearance of start of baldness for as long as I've had hair.

Oh and cut, slightly grown out number 2 on the sides, scissors up top, so short.
  • I like it. Easy to find the haircut when making my avatar on Tiger Woods 2004. Short, blonde, with a part on the left. Though its not short enough for me to be confused with the cadets or midshipmen at work (or maybe it's because I wrangle around. Don't see too many academy kids doing that).
  • On a random note, when I have bed head, it looks like a little broom :P
  • My hair is straight until it gets long and then it gets wavy. I keep it short and gel it.
  • Long, straight and red.

    ^_^

  • I've been told I have a spot on top that's starting to thin out, but I'm not old enough for that yet. :-P
  • Depending on recent events.

Very thick and very straight (and also quite long). It used to be the bane of my existence. You can't quite fit with the hair bear crowd (those who teased their bangs into 6-inch poodle fluffs) when your hair falls flat in less than an hour. I used sprays like "Stiff Stuff" and would have my hair on a curling iron as I spray it, then fried it with a blow drier. All to have my hair eat the glue and fall flat. Thankfully, I grew out of that and learned that long and straight can be incredibly sexy. Ends
  • Family and friends say it's better-looking than long. And it is also more comfortable.
