  • B. OK? B.

As a tribute to Some Woman, I select B.

And it's the truth. Da Braves are just a game and a half back of the Phillies now.

Wow. With no pitching, and lots of injuries. Cox and Co are doing it right again this year.
  • After getting rid of A-Rod and a couple other stars, the Rangers are contending for first place in the AL West. Go figure. We'll see if they can hold on to that through August.

The Mavericks lost their star point guard to free agency, which might not be a bad thing in the long run. It looks like they will try to sign Shaq, which might or might not be a good thing. Who knows what Mark Cuban will do next, but it's fun to watch.

The Cowboys... Seem to do better when Jerry Jones keeps his mouth shut,
    • Gah, no say it ain't so...you, a Cowboys fan?

      Blech :)

Ok, so I won't knock your team. I am curious about the Mavs. I know Cuban slings cash like a sprinkler, but do you think the Lakers will let him pick up Shaq? I couldn't imagine that team not winning like 5 straight titles.

I do like the Mavs. When did Nash get traded?
      • Not a huge Cowboys fan, but they are the home-town team.

Nash departed for Phoenix not 24 hours into his free agency. I'm not sure exactly why, but there was apparently some friction on the team. Cuban is fun to watch, but some of his antics have negative effects. His complaints (many quite correct) about the officiating rebound on the players.

The Lakers really ought to try and hold on to Shaq, but they need to get a coach in place right quick. I haven't been following the issues very closely, b
  • Football (NFL and College) and Hockey are in the off season at the moment.

I didn't know there were any sports in the summer. Occasionally I see some soccer on TV. Some tennis as well, but neither are that fun to watch. As long as we all aagree that Golf isn't no more a sport than knitting (they're both great ways to relax, but hardly a true sport) and that NASCAR is just mind-control for red-necks, then we'll all get along just fine.

I do miss my favorite sport, though: Run, Fatboy, Run! It's when rich
    • Same here, hockey is about the only sport I ever follow. And depending on what you read it may be a long time until we see any more pro hockey played (well, NHL at least).

I'll watch baseball occassionaly but I don't follow the standings and other than a couple of superstars I don't know who any of the players are. I guess I'm kind of a Mets fan by default only because I'm in the New York area and I just don't feel right just jumping on the Yankee bandwagon like so many other people around here do. Not that

    • Yup... no football == video game season... the 2008 steelers are doing great. Hopefully I'll make it to 2010 before I get the newest madden (gawd I love franchise mode!).
  • The Indians can't seem to break 500 to save their life. And its always due to some stupid shit: a pitcher getting suspended for a game, another getting some inflamation, stupid bullpen, a bad error.

The key is they are CLOSE. Which is big. Wickman is back to anchor the bullpen. They are young but feisty. They always take it to the good teams.

The Cavs are close to resigning Carlos Boozer to a big deal. Luke Jackson should be a good distance threat along with the other FA aquisitions. If they can get
  • Yeah? I'm a chick? And I don't really follow sports? So I don't have a "team"? Is there something wrong with that?

But really, I'm not following the Braves much. And the Labonte brothers are doing OK, I guess. (They're my favorite drivers 'cause they're hotties. Just ask Kiddo -- she'll tell you.)

    ....Bethanie....
    • are you asking me or telling me?

Cause if you are a dude, congrats on the first male birth!

      Woooo! ;)

(slashdot requires you to wait a soul-sucking eternity before you can post successive responses. We do it because you and your money mean nothing to us)
      • All those question marks? If you read them that way? they obviously confirm that I'm a girl? Because this is, like, totally the way girls talk? Hello!!??

        ....Bethanie....
        • OOOOOHHHHH.

          I get it now!

This earthling woman is trying to communicate with us in an ancient dialect known as "valley girl", or "80s" speak.

          Let me try and respond:

Like totally. If I was a chick I'd be all gag me with a spoon? Whatever. ;)
  • I haven't a team, which may or may not be because I'm a girl like Technolust and Bethanie. But I don't like coffee. If I have to drink a coffee beverage for not watching sports, it has to have the coffee-flavor beaten out of it with high doses of caramel, chocolate, and whipped cream. Otherwise I'll just sit down in front of the TV and do what I used to do when my dad would watch sports: root for the other team.
  • well, i actually don't know. Oh, the Tigers, feh... struggling to stay near .500 -- but they did pretty well against them Yanks.

but what I'm dying to see is, how my Eagles are going to fair this season... another Big Choke? Will McNabb learn to hit his target? Will he get the bench?

I'm pretty siked for football to start.
  • X) I don't watch sports you insensitive asswhipe.

In football (you know which kind I refer to) the euro was okay, but a bit disappointing. The clubs I support are a different matter. The season has not started yet, so like every year I am optimistic. My Austrian team has fought its way back into the first division, after being relegated to the third because of bankruptcy two years ago. This means that for the first time since I moved to Vienna I actually have a chance to see them play, because they will come here four times over the season.

    My German team

    • wow.

      You've been studying baseball.

      Very impressive.

Cubbies will be fine, they'll make the playoffs at least.

      you posted on slashdot!! ;)

Seems like baseball and I were a match made at some wonderful place. I did shell out for the MLB.tv subscription for this season. I see a lot of games. I am down with the lingo. I have a fantasy team that is dead last in the league.
  • arnis doesn't have teams. and there is no sport application for it.

cubs are always the cubs. i'm always a fan.

the team with which i most identify [blacklabelskates.com] is doing alright. they may not be winning the most, but that's not what they're about. they're about being hardcore. john lucero rocks it steady.
    • One day we'll go to a Cubs game together. We might be old men by then and they ivy at wrigley might be synthetic, but we'll be there. I will talk through a throat mike, you will be leaning on a cane, but in best Waldorf and Statler manner we will call for the ump to be killed.
  • this weekend, I will be part of the axis team in the d-day paintball event here in PA.

we are going to FRIGGING OWN.

that will be from friday night until sunday afternoon. then, I get to drive 3 hours from there to south philly for a casting call for a new reality tv series. normally I wouldn't go to these things, but for some reason they found out where I was hanging out last night to go and make a personal invite to me and a friend. should be interesting.

  • I'd say F - Watching sports is for pussies that can't play. I like to play. Watching is boring.

BLISS is ignorance.
