    They are in their 60's.

With that kind of attitude, I initially misread this as "They are stuck in the '60s" ;-)
  • looks like its time for you to support mom and dad into their golden years. Maybe they can get a job? I hear Mickey D's is hiring.
    • Heh. Yeah, I am sure McD's is hiring.

Truly sad. Not a blood relation to the Emster though.

Is it odd that I referred to myself in the 3rd person and gave myself a nickname?

When your grandeur and majesty elevates to the level of a bustling city, its hard NOT to refer to yourself in the 3rd person. Me and Mekka B do it all the time.
  • Personally, I wish we'd do away with SS. I'd rather invest my money than give it to the gub'ment to invest and it maybe not be there when I retire. I don't figure it in to my retirement calculations at so. So if it IS still around by some miracle, I'll be like, "Bonus!" :-)

  • SS was considered one leg of the 3-legged stool of retirement, the other two being personal savings and pensions.
Somehow, most people choose to ignore that.
    • Don't forget that social security is not just retirement. Don't forget disability pay.

That said, about 1/3 of Angie's payment comes out of my check. (IOW, my social security deduction is about one third of what Angie's payment is)
      • You are correct sir.
BTW, not only are you paying as you go but, I believe, you're then paying taxes on Angie's income.

Oh, and if she had either a pension and/or 401(k), is she eligible for payment penalty-free?
Is there a SS benefit for your son?

You don't have to answer, but these may actually be valid questions you want to investigate if you haven't already.
At one time I knew all of this stuff cold.
        • Because of my income, 85% of her social security above a certain amount (still looking for that info) is taxable. Joseph also gets a payment.

She had neither pension nor 401(k), as her job situation was a little rocky prior to disability.
