Here in the UK, a crime and shop lifting ridden total surveillance state, the police now insist that hospitality locations (pubs, bars etc) have customer facing cameras installed.
(Someone is making money from this.)
Good! Huge scope for misuse, trust based society!
We are headed towards a world prophesied in movies whereby career or genetically violent or sexually 'active' humans are inserted en mass into society (Spain in the last week), UK, France, Sweden over the last few years, creating fear in us civilised types. So the politicians and authority figures, with interests in surveillance technology exploit this and roll out equipment across our nations, creating an ugly privacy invasive society. Meanwhile, they live in gated communities, away from the detritus of their making.
A few years ago, a young sailor went missing in a UK town, and sadly, his body was found in a trash container a week or so later.
CCTV cameras showed all his movements since leaving home, and this was broadcast on national TV and the Internet. A huge breach of his privacy, and evidence, if any, that total surveillance does nothing to deter, prevent or solve crime.
What does prevent crime is street level dicipline, cops on the beat, who when not chasing shop lifters, are giving directions to lost tourists, as I witnessed in Notting Hill in London about 15+ years ago.
We must fight this awful future, with a return to family values, sound mental and physical health and return to a trust based society.
