This isn't abuse though; they aren't saying This app has no commission; but this app does. They are saying ALL apps using our store and our payment processor are subject to this fee. The Iphone also isn't a monopoly; and if you look at other marketplaces like this, their fee is in-line with the rest. (AT least, no moreso then Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo consoles, Android OS, etc.)

This is just someone whining that they can't make as much as they thought they could after they setup their business on someone else's platform and agreed to those terms of service.

If he wants to start a platform that competes with the iPhone/android/etc and has 0 fees on any apps using the store and payment systems, he is more then welcome to do so. Now how he would make any money to run and support that platform? I guess ask the South Park underpants gnomes... maybe they've figured step 2 out finally.

Apple is a for profit company. They created the iphone and app store as part of their business to make money. If you want to use their platform, that they created, and that they operate at their expense, you have to follow the rules and regulations they have for their platform. One of those rules is they get a cut of sales made on their platform.

Same with Google and Android; same with Sony and the Playstation; same with Microsoft and the Xbox.

All I hear are commies whining that they can't treat other peoples IP and property as communal and use it for like free man.

as I am more of a RPG/MMO player my current games are:

ESO (DLAA enabled)
Fallout 76
No Man's Sky
Path of Exile
Diablo 4
WOW Classic WOTLK
Shadows of Doubt
The Planet Crafter
Subnautica
Valheim

Didn't bother looking their budgets up; some are small, some are big. There are lots of others I've played, finished, and uninstalled too. As far as I'm aware; edge cases aside; the biggest issues are the anti-cheat things, and few if any games I play or even want to play use those. (as I'm not interested in multi-player looter/shooters in any way)

Probably the only one of those with any issues at all was ESO; and that was just the installer. The game itself runs great.

In... well everything I've loaded up in the last year at least, been no step 3. They've all just worked.

On topic; AMD CPU, NVIDIA GPU here. Thanks to Valve's work; linux gaming is not just possible; its basically the same experience as windows for most games I've tried. Step 1) Install game. Step 2) Press play. As someone who has tried to game on linux for over a decade; I am amazed daily by how well things work now.

The same, basically. I just don't think their drop in revenue is due to google news and facebook linking the article and some text from it, and a link, driving traffic to their site is somehow costing them views/ads; and that NOT happening is going to somehow get them more traffic.

We will see though. Its not like I have anything but my dumbass opinion to go on :)

Its a hilariously stupid idea.

Google and other similar sites only index what your tell them to on your site. They also drive a metric shit ton of traffic your way if your site is relevant to what people are looking for.

All this does is remove Canadian news sites from google and facebook. So when folks search for news in those areas; they get (likely) outside news agencies reporting on canadian news, not canadian ones. Why? Because they would have to pay for those links.

Basically this is like charging the yellow pages for using your business name, address, and category to list you in the phone book. Its short-signed, stupid, and will cause financial harm to the very orgs. they pretend to be helping.

Tit for tat. They should be forced to add Google Pay and Steam as options to pay with, too.

Unless they keep it up to date better then the 10 version, its not going to help. For example you can't run most Adobe products on the 2019 enterprise release, which forced us to move those labs to Pro (they have finally released a 2021 version but too late we had to update 1.5 yrs ago before this was available).

Requiring a MS online account? Sigh.. I foresee all kinda of fun in my future as we won't be able to use that now, and if they only do an enterprise release every 3 years.. we will be forced to run old versions of Adobe products (if we even can, at points they just become unavailable).. and that's just one example off the top of my head. I just don't understand MS' recent moves with 11. At all.

Nope. A tad younger but I've been working for a school for 20 years now. It only took me 3 bad jobs to make this change and I'm glad I did. A real pension, good benefits, and I actually feel like what I do is helfpul; rather then just making a bunch of old rich white dudes richer. I could literally double my salary in the private sector... but it just wouldn't be worth it to me. My QoL is so much higher now.
