Journal Corporate Troll's Journal: I'm posting from 1994! 16

We moved offices yesterday and, of course when the seats were distributed, I got the worst place possible. Not only, do I sit directly behind a door and the hallway, but everyone in the office behind me can see what I do. Glass is a bit transparent. I know my boss did this on purpose.

However, I don't need a graphical browser. I'm just fine with the command line and a text-based browser is more than enough. So, I'm back to Lynx, which is the first browser I used back in 1994 when I started to attend University ;-)

So you're of the kind who gets placed where everyone can see you? You must've been a really bad boy. ;)

I'd link to some tits, but with you on lynx...

      Ascii porn might work
      • You're onto something. But I don't think lynx does Java. Otherwise, this might help him out:

        • Nah, Lynx doesn't do Applets and many sites just push it away. Oh, well, whatever.... Tried it in firefox. I've seen those kind of things before. There is an entire library that can render movies in ASCII. I think VLC can do it, but I should try. Anyway, while it isn't lynx, I can still Telnet to towel.blinkenlights.nl [blinkenlights.nl] ;-)

Yes it does. And from personal experience, I highly recommend the first Matrix movie.
            • Well, I can't really try it at work. I only have pr0n movies on this machine. (In a Truecrypt volume though, I'm not completely insane...) ;-)

Did I say that out loud?

          • As long as you're going text mode (and that's what I do, for stuff I don't want crossing the corporate network unencrypted -- my not-secret-yet-stuff-I-don't-want-to-shout-it-out stuff), I use w3m. It renders tables! And frames!

Some people prefer links or elinks. They also render tables. (I forget if they do frames or not.)

They're all easily Google-able, and they're probably already in your distro's package manager.

Package Manager? *snort* You owe me a new keyboard. Do you really think that the company I work for is enlightened enough to use things like Linux? I've never worked with Linux, alas I'm bound to the Redmond OS. I'd love to work with Linux, but the odds of that ever happening are equal to me getting Rene Zellweger in the sack.

(I do realise other OSes have package managers, but Windows XP most certainly don't

              • Well, yeah. That's what I was talking about. :-) I ssh to my server and reconnect my screen session, which is always running irssi, mutt, and w3m, plus a few more shells.
      • (.)(.) works for me ;-)

    • Bah, that entirely depends on what you define as "naughty". Yes, I surf when there is nothing much to do. Sure, I'm not going to *ask* for work. Give me some, I'll do it.

Lynx isn't half as bad: I go to slashdot for the comments and that's text only. It's just fine.
