Iâ(TM)ve had issues with some open source projects which deprecated SSL in favor of using StartTLS. Upon dumping the traffic, I realized that StartTLS would silently fail and fall back to being totally unencrypted. If Iâ(TM)m forced to use StartTLS, I only use it over an ssh tunnel.

I truncated the file, reset the date (it uses 12/31/1979) and set an ACL to deny write access. So far so good!

Also, if you ask the question in the wrong area, they just delete it. Some poor guy asked a programming question that really ended up being a configuration question. I spent a lot of time answering it, and when I submitted my answer, the question was justâ¦gone. Deleted because it wasnâ(TM)t âoeprogrammingâ. Donâ(TM)t even get me started on the Unix/Linux âoePOSIX Policeâ. There is a reason why I donâ(TM)t try to contribute there, as much as I could, and would like to help. I think they will disappear. Or large portions will anyway.

But who gatekeeps the gatekeepers? In my opinion, the excessive gatekeeping detracts from people who want to contribute.

It was ACTUALLY correct. It just took a long time to convince people of that fact. I eventually got a few positive points. In donâ(TM)t understand why someone would downvote yet offer nothing themselves. Itâ(TM)s not like I was getting paid for it.

I had the same experience. They have a serious gatekeeping issue there. I got downvoted and I was the ONLY person answering!

Gitlab is written, at least in part, in Ruby. So there is good software written in Ruby. The startup time is a killer, though. And so is opening a rails console. Itâ(TM)s frustrating to administer.
