The interesting figure here isn't the 6/10. It's the 4/10. I'd have to question the sanity of that 40%. This is not a bash at MS. It is just prudent IT policy, and good business not to use untested software in mission critical environments. No new OS, from anyone, is guaranteed to be mission critical in its first year of release.

Most of those 4/10 already have their hands on the OS and are testing it. Many large corporations are given prerelease versions for application testing prior to the street release date. If any of them were going live on day 1 with no testing that would be insane, but i bet most will have been testing extensively prior to october.

Submission + - Pickens calls off massive wind farm in Texas

schwit1 writes: AP the story that Pickens' Plans for the world's largest wind farm in the Texas Panhandle have been scrapped and he's looking for a home for 687 giant wind turbines.

In Texas, the problem lies in getting power from the proposed site in the Panhandle to a distribution system, Pickens said in an interview with The Associated Press in New York. He'd hoped to build his own transmission lines but he said there were technical problems.

The chance may be very small, but if I share 1/4 of the markers with a suspect (as a sibling would) then I have to deal with hassle of being questioned by the feds. It's profiling. You can't pull over everyone driving a lexus in a low income neighborhood looking for stolen cars and you can't question everyone who has a given number of repeats at a certain locus in hopes of finding a criminal.

As with most condo associations, it would be great till the little old lady down the street wants to rip the whole thing out and go back to token ring. Everyone would laugh at her and call her stupid and then she would sue the association for bias against a minority in the group.

Laws governing these associations don't allow them to be pure democracies. It's very easy for one or a few disgruntled individuals to cause major headaches for the majority even if the majority is working in the best interest of the collective.
