This is common news in liberal sources. So I don't really understand the anger when it as the Democratic party that helped to put MAGA candidates in Washington using *your* donor money. Yes there are articles for 2024 as well and I'm sure there are ones for 2025 if you take the time to Google..

The Democrat party either doesn't actually believe MARA ia a threat to Democracy, or they believe the chance of winning is more important than Democracy. There really are no other options.

People here don't seem to have a lot of insight into basic news. I've had people attack me, and mode me down to -1 where I can't reply to people and have a conversation. People would rather not learn from each other in this day and age, and honestly how Slashdot works doesn't help.

It's everywhere nowadays. I'm currently doing a web frontend, and the amazon auth library I'm using is the same size as the rest of my app. 5MB pages everywhere.

It isn't just the transparent look that makes this Apple's Vista, but everything also loads noticeably slower. Choosing a section in the System Settings now feels like loading a webpage... between the lag of showing the section after a click and how the icons on the section load one by one.

I've been a Mac user on and off for 20 years, this is the first time in a while I'm seriously thinking about jumping ship. This is the largest miss by Apple in a long time.

The general problem is if you are not on the largest platforms, you are missing large pieces of the pie.

If you are a video content creator, publishing your stuff on Vimeo over YouTube is a giant loss of eyes. It will lead large parts of the population to not even knowing you exist... because they never leave the app. It doesn't matter how much you fear how YouTube might not be presenting your videos to viewers or threats of demonetization over arbitrary things all applied by algorithms.

Similarly for Amazon, you could make your own store.... but most people will never leave Amazon's app to discover it. You then have to deal with the nightmare return system where you can't interact with the customer as a seller.

Things have become so consolidated that regardless of horrible treatment to the sellers vendors etc, you have to stick with the platform. It IS user centric now matter how many might want to complain. But it also kind of removes a large point of the internet in my opinion.

Chrome is open source, the place where new web standard are prototypes, and is supported on most major platforms. Even if I am using Linux or a Mac, I don't need to worry about not being able to open my bank's page.

While I use Firefox as my primary browser, I don't know if there is a use case for different browsing engines like there used to be. I remember when Firefox let you change stylesheets with an icon for a short while... I don't see that kind of experimentation any more.

This article is extremely ethnocentric in that it assumes Europeans have the same priorities. If there are tarrifs I'm sure there will be more incentives to build thier own solutions. I think I'm a similar way to the US being unable to have manufacturing compete with China, without terrifs there will be no European competition.

You're right in that I think this is a non-article.

These are all side effects of people refusing to talk to each other on the other side of the isle. The only way you get both the republican side and democrat side to be all in on the kind of revenge gerrymandering going on is by having your "media" convince you that the other side is unreasonable.

Combined, these two videos reflect how the US split itself in two when people agree more than you would be lead to believe. If you watch two videos, how can you with any good intent believe that American's are not dehumanizing each other and teaching each other to talk at each other rather than with each other.

TWX, If you actually care about Democracy, and aren't actually paying lip service, you would be reaching out to try to understand what the other half of America ic concerned about, and showing that you yourself are not unreasonable.

I've said it before, but the liberal side of Slashdot believes that posts like mine are for trolling. The way I was modded to Terrible karma reflects how Democrats are doing their part to try to destroy America, silencing and attacking Independents who they need the vote for.

My general concern for from this remark is that the inability to listen to other people is the reason why elwe have both the Democrats and the Republicans gerrymandering Democracy away.

As an independent watching Democrats behavior, I've come to believe more and more that if Trump ran as a Democrat and picked up a few token progressive causes, we would have the Democratic party trying to rationalize the insurrection.

You are part of the reason that the Democrat party and the Republican party members are aggressively doing things like extreme gerrymandering.

If half the country could talk to the other side with good intent, we wouldn't have each party going to extremes trying to destroy democracy. But it is more convenient to say snarky things to the crowd in Slashdot.

Youtube is starting to get some nicer stuff for creators finally. But I always feel like it is a mixed bag that isn't creator or user centric. As an example, I want to be able to localize my videos for English and Japanese. There is new automatic dubbing on Youtube using AI... but you can't choose to use the normal audio as easily as you should. For example, when accessing using a phone to the webpage, the option isn't here.

Youtube is trying things... but they probably should have tried some of these things *before* AI. Then, there would be an appropriate way to choose a language for example...

The more interesting storyus how this is effecting American camera manufactures (today are left.) This story one functions as a"I told you so!" for something obvious.

It's too late for Kodak. They already had to stop making digital cameras. Current American camera companies are Red, GoPro, Blackmagic, and Panavision. But does them outsourcing manufacturing mean they have no price advantage?

The primary literal news pushes these kind of defeatest articles. . There are more facets to this discussion than, "things are more expensive!"

My concern for Democracy, including the redistricing battle I'm California vs Texas is it built upon the assumption that the other side is unreasonable. You get an arms race that hurts democracy with excessive gerrymandering.

This article that only looks at raising prices of foreign brands plays into this problem. A problem where people from the left and the right are just talking at each other without listening.

I watch news as it comes through the political spectrum on Ground News. The article, "Teamsters Donating to Republicans Ahead of Midterms in Shift Away From Democrats" is just starting to make it from the right side news papers to the center papers (Politico), and it doesn't appear of the left news yet.

The timing of this and the content make it look like it is trying to draw the news cycle, even if it is tech related. But I may be wrong.

Hey all, I've been asking questions on Slashdot to help my understanding of the current political situation in the US. (I've been in Japan for a few years now.)

I'm concerned for democracy. I think people here would rather complain in an echo chamber rather than talk to someone outside their bubble. If you are concerned about Democracy, the best thing your can do is make some friends on the other side of the isle and have good faith conversations. The effect will be much larger than anything you write here. Making fun of and attacking independents asking for faith questions is the way to lose votes and elections.

Modding was used as kudgel to make it so I can only post a few times a day when I sometimes get multiples more in replies. Often these replies say something like, " l be tyou won't even reply to this." They will also often make wierd assumptions on my political leaning. I feel like the karma modding is intentional.

I've shifted more independent in recent years since the Democrats backed far right candidates in primaries with the thought it was a guaranteed win. Yes, this was covered in left side news. Either the Democratic party believed maga is going to destroy democracy and were playing with fire, or they do not believe thier own words.

Since then I have problems taking articles like this as seriously. It looks like a lot of people don't realize that heavily right or left media has a predetermined destination for the conclusion of anything they say. You will not see a pro gun article on cnn. You will not see a pro illrgal immigration article on Fox or whatever they do.

I've mentioned that I am an independent and I purposefully have it in a signature. The majority of my media diet is left to center. If you are so angry to try to assume I am someone I am not, it's not going to help anyone. Trump winning has set off a kind of fiery violence that for the safety of my family I had to distance myself from the Democratic party. I can't choose your actions.

I've stated in my original post that Biden and Obama put in work to help manufacturing. You need to tone done your anger and please read what I wrote.

Unions have their place and I have no real intent to try to raise or lower them here. One of the core things with the global economy is that US businesses became unable to compete on price. This price also effects being able to pay union workers. In my opinion, one of the few ways to try to correct that is with tarrifs. The US trade balance is extremely out of whack to a point of ridiculousness because of these price discrepancies. But how much will people be able to tolerate higher prices? And how much will people be able to get out of a decades long mindset of throwing things away?
