Journal Billosaur's Journal: A Little Frontier Justice 6

I'm not in the habit of recommending people go out and deal with criminals on their own; vigilantism is a double-edged sword and if you're not a member of the police department, there can be consequences. However, occasionally, when someone takes matters into their own hands because they feel wronged and don't want the perpetrator to get away with it, things turn out all right. A Florida restaruant owner was accquited of manslaughter by a jury, after he pursued and ran over the man who robbed him. Let this serve as a cautionary tale to criminals -- not everyone is going to roll over and play dead.

  • So, basically, you think that the life of a wetback is worth less than $16?

I hope someone kills YOU over $16. Even Hammurabi wouldn't have approved of this shit, which, I suppose, makes sense, since Florida is pretty much about half as developed as the world was when he was in charge, and Floridians are less than half as bright.

      1. I think the term "wetback" is perjorative and shows a decided lack of sensitivity. Mind you, I'm not big on PC bullsh*t but I avoid perjorative terms because there's no merit

Being killed over $15.23 is so very sad.
    • Indeed. You have to wonder: is it really so much better to steal that to work, even a low-paying job? So many times in my life I've been down on my luck and yet it has never once occurred to me to turn to a life of crime to make my money, though in most cases it would be so easy (look at spammers and phishers). How much of your dignity to you have to shed to be able to do this?

Maybe a story like this makes someone think twice about turning down that road. Not likely, but one can hope. It just goes to show

    • It's a tragedy all the way around. There are no winners here. And nothing would have been gained by sending the defendant to prison, either.

There's no sense in being precise when you don't even know what you're talking about. -- John von Neumann
