Journal Bill Dog's Journal: seeking defense contracting company names 9

My job is ending this month, end of federal govt. fiscal year, and no follow-on this time. I've been here 6 years, which is longer than I thought this would last. In 2001 when my 2nd dot-com layed me off, private spending was at a standstill, so I'm very thankful I got picked up for this. But I haven't exactly been around long enough to know who are all the players. I'm looking for companies that do software development (and not just embedded, with which I have no experience). The clearance issue is not a problem. For a few reasons I'd like to stay in this industry if I can (the biggie being here it's seemingly much more acceptable to be older and still a programmer/hands-on/non-managerial type). Is the clearancejobs.com web site legit and any good? I've only used Monster and Dice in the past, any new ones since 6 years ago that are better or comparable?

  • Take a look at SAIC...
    • clearancejobs.com is legit.
      • Wow, one of my Slashdot "freaks" is replying in my journal. I thought you hated me, but nevertheless I appreciate the input.
        • Nah, I hate very few people.
Just not interested in you posting to my journal (not that it's an issue lately).
Someone linked to your journal in another forum, and since it was something I'd actually looked into...
          • Just not interested in you posting to my journal...

All you really had to do was ask. "Our personalities conflict, so please refrain..."

Someone linked to your journal in another forum,...

Interesting, would you disclose from where?
            • In the "circular refuge" section of multiply, where much of the old journal circle (or at least much of the folks whose journals I read) migrated back around Feb-Mar. I don't think you can get there without being a member of the group.
Content of post was as follows:

              Link: http://slashdot.org/~Bill+Dog/journal/183025 [slashdot.org]

Bill Dog's looking for work, preferably in the gubmint sector. I thought I'd post here since he wasn't one who made the migration and see if anyone can help out.

              Not here, though. There. :)

              • Wow, that was very nice of that mystery person.

I was never part of "the circle" some of y'all referred to sometimes -- established long before my time joining here.
    • I'm not a fan of SAIC (no personal experience, but plenty of anecdotes from people whose opinions I would trust).

A list of some the large gov't contractors:
      Northrop Grumman*
      Booze-Allen-Hamilton
      CSC*
      General Dynamics*
      Lockheed Martin
      Raytheon
      CACI
Cubic Applications Inc (personally I would never work for them, they abuse exempt employees)
Titan (bought by someone, I forgot who)
      L3
      Boeing

      Some smaller ones:
      Zel Technologies*
      Dataline
      Aerospace Corporation* (my current employer)
      Echo Storm
      Prosoft

      That should get you started.
      • Wow, holy cow, thanks for that list, I really appreciate that! Alas I'm not in the DC area (southern California) else I'd probably already have offers, unsolicited. Or so I hear.
