PlayStation Network Expanding To Involve Other Devices 63

At CES, Sony's Kaz Hirai confirmed that the company will build out its PlayStation Network for use with other devices, such as televisions, Blu-ray players, and PCs. Quoting: "... the expansion starts next month with the availability of the PSN video store on these other devices, and Hirai explained they are constructing a mechanism to create a single user ID across the entire network (if you have a PSN account, it's good to go on any other applicable Sony device, and if you create one on another device, it'll work on PSN). And finally, Hirai also announced the formation of a new Sony division — called Sony Network Entertainment, Inc. — to drive this expansion of the PSN service into a Sony-wide network."

plants don't have any of those things apart from genatalia... i suppose if plants had brains, they'd probably have been a long standing law suit by plants against insects for sexual assult, but then the insects may have counter sued against the plants for indecency and public exposure.

maybe plant lawers died out because they couldn't pollinate? darwin for the win.

i've been/am in that same situation. no mortgage, always rented, no credit card, just a debit card on my current account, and always paid up front for everything. car paid in full, holidays the same. always saved for anything i've wanted thats been a bit above and beyond the norm, and got not only savings, but got a cash float in the bank for anything like car/bike maintainence, and unexpected emergencies.

in yet i cannot get a credit card. i cannot get a mortgage. and if i wanted a loan (which i have investigated) i'd have to go to one of those dodgy back alley places with 40%+ APR, or they'll start breaking limbs.

having had my credit report checked out, i'm high risk because i have no "credit" history.
my other half and i have recently bought a house together... but not in legal terms, as she could borrow more money from the bank if i wasn't listed in the mortgage, as i am considered a risk, and then in addition, my contribution could then be listed as "rental income" and the projected income from rent would be used to inflate the salary agaist which the loan amount would be based. so again more money.

it's twisted. but it works for us anyway...

i've recently got a credit card from crapital one as they'll lend to anyone, and watched my credit score go up. its been a year or so, but i'm now getting credit card offers from more reputable sources, so something must be working.

its a b1tch, but maybe i shouldn't have thrown away those credit card offers when i hit 18 in the dim and distant past...

sure you can get in without a degree. i've been a solaris operator/tape monkey, then support engineer, then Unix SA in the 4 years since i dropped out of the first year of unversity.
to be honest, my course was a waste of time, and some professors really did subscribe to the "those who can't, teach." with some of them not really connected to the real world having been in academia for so long.
pretty much all companies i've worked for have valued expirience over school/university qualifications. industry qualifications being valued most of all.
except microsoft certifications.... those it seems are generally regarded as things you get free with your breakfast cereal, as almost every IT monkey has a list of useless MCSE's as long as your arm.

one company i worked for (veritas, before it got eaten by symantec) even hired an ex-hotel manager with no previous I.T. skills to join one of the teams. they put him through the mill learning everything from "this is a computer" to doing his Sun solaris SA's, and learning their product line. 6 months he was ready and an effective BOFH. his only skill he brought in was that he was a fluent German speaker. so, one idea is to learn a 2nd or 3rd language if you want to stand out skill wise in IT.

TBH, most SA's aren't SA's straight out of University, unless it is their own startup, or daddy's company. they still have to work their way up the ladder, and show some affinity with being an SA.
dropping out of year one just put me three to five years ahead of those that actually completed their degree course.
just be prepeared to start at the bottom and work your way up if you have to.

going to Uni isn't garanteed to land you the perfect job as soon as to set foot outside of student halls. you just gotta fight a little harder to get your foot on the ladder.

anyway, thats where i'm comming from, and my general expirience...

having worked on a beef/dairy farm, and been around slaughter houses, i have a fair idea how my meat has been raised, looked after, and culled. Then prep'ed, butchered, and cooked for dinner. and i'm ok with that. Now, my background kinda precludes me from even commenting on an indian vegeterian lifestyle, as i have no idea how, why, or what is involved. but if that is through personal choice, not something forced on you by other people, than more power to you sir. So out of basic politeness, it would be appreciated if you would extend me the same courtesy. Many thanks. Beermonster
