Comment Rope-A-Dope (Score 1) 579

You fell for the Rope-A-Dope.

"Without proof" is how ALL accusations begin. Once there's proof, they aren't accusations anymore. They're called facts.

When a MAGAer claims you never prove criminal behavior on Trump's part, point to the Ukraine phone call, point to the impeachment.

When they say he was acquitted, point to all of the suppressed witnesses and the withheld evidence.

When they say that's all fake news, understand what you're dealing with and move on with your life. Being intellectually honest and openminded doesn't mean dipshits deserve your time or attention. Or respect. Don't honor their false equivalences.

With distance and clarity, if you feel like it, take some time and ponder the implications of what you hear from the other side. Assume those really are their best-reasoned arguments. Assume they really do feel that way. If this is them acting in good faith, is there any point in trying to reason with them?

No, I'm thinking more about the pussy-grabber standing in front of a church he doesn't attend holding up a Bible, upside down. Classic.

More than half of Americans self-identify as Liberal. That's right, Conservatives are a minority. But if they don't get to boss the country around they still feel they got robbed.

As for totalitarianism, the Republican presidential candidate is trying to get the US A.G. to file charges against his opponent!!! Do you even hear yourself right now? Hahaha!

First, that article is about 'being diagnosed with', not 'having' mental illness.

So, OK. Liberals tend to be more self-reflective and more self-aware. They're also less likely to feel a strong stigma against disclosing problems and doubts. These two tendencies make liberals much more likely to disclose symptoms to medical providers, resulting in diagnoses.

The author's glee over 'validation' of his bias is disheartening, but hardly unexpected. That gloating tone should serve as a warning to you, however, to approach his evidence with skepticism.

Second, all of that data looks like it comes from surveys of self reported data. Use objective data to validate/invalidate subjective claims. Not the other way around.

I have my own problems with the way liberal Americans view conservative Americans. Insults and ad hominems don't help make anything better.

Disclosure:
Socially, I am so liberal that people don't believe my opinions when I say them out loud. Fiscally, I am more moderate, slightly left of center in the US.

The problem is you start with the assumption there are all these higher level simulations running. In actuality, we have a sample size of 1 (reality), and no determination of its status.

Furthermore, this kind of self flagellation raises the obvious point that the existence containing the computer on which we were being simulated would probably ALSO merely a simulation because the same logic would apply to that reality as applies to ours. It's simulations ALL THE WAY DOWN?

Is it possible? Sure, whatever. Is it testable or measurable? Actually, no, I don't think it is, not in any way I've heard of. So, how ballsy do you have to be to say it's more likely than not the truth? That is a positive assertion of literally universal scope.

That whole dice-roll metaphor is just the offensive smell coming off of the giant steaming pile of bullshit. He is ascribing actual probabilities to reality based on his own explicit assumption.

Two things jumped out at me.

First, this might depend on the Attacker being able to 'influence' the telecommunications provider. It strikes me that all of the alleged victims are inside Iran, when there are BUTTLOADS of people outside Iran that the regime would LOVE to observe more closely.

Second, imagine this is the other way around:

Eg: I want to run Telegram on a mobile phone. I download the app and before it lets me log into the account, it sends an access code to the
existing Telegram session on my desktop.

It seems way more likely (to me at least, with admittedly no evidence) that Victim is running the service on their phone. Once Attacker has extracted the 'installation files' (whatever that means), maybe they are able to emulate the phone on other hardware? Then they try to log in on another device, divert the access code to the emulated phone, get the code, complete the log in, and viola, they have another valid instance of Victim's app.

As far as how many sessions are running, do they have to be simultaneous? If not, it would be easy enough for governmental security types to monitor when Victim is online/likely to be online and do their reading when Victim is otherwise occupied.

Again, not my specialty, so if none of this makes any sense, that's normal.
