The term "shoot 'em up" should not be applied to FPS games. That term (often abbreviated "shmup") applies to the arcade style, vertical or horizontal scrolling titles, in which the character is in a ship, moving on a two dimensional plane and seemingly not affected by gravity. Think Galaga, Gradius, Life Force, Ikaruga, etc.
Shmups which often have well over 100 bullets onscreen at one time are sometimes referred to as "manic" shmups (or alternatively, "curtain-fire" shmups).
I presume they incorrectly borrowed that term for this poll because they were trying to create titles to distinguish between the types of FPS titles.
