Ambient_Developer's Journal: BitTorrent Trackers on Freenet

With all the recent news of BitTorrent trackers being sued; this reader wonders, what would happen if BitTorrent tracking was done on Freenet? We all already know that Freenet provides the soup needed to allow anonymity which would offer protection to tracking sites. So would it be effective to maybe meld BitTorrent and Freenet together?

Bittorrent in its current form is completely centralized (the tracker has to know about all the clients, and all the clients have to know about the tracker). Freenet is completely decentralized. I don't know how you could run Bittorrent over Freenet without compromising the anonymity of the participants (although I'd be very interested in hearing ideas on how to do it.)

I am not saying bit-torrent users would be anonymious, I am saying content providers would be. So places like suprnova could never go off line. With what I am suggesting, you might also see a good increase in download speed off of freenet.

Why not just put .torrent files on P2P?

I mean, they can be distributed in zip files or in any other kind of a searchable format on many P2Ps.

Because on p2p, you can still trace the content provider, on p2p, the file can be removed. One of the reasons why bit torrent was su successful, is because the layout for a torrent site is much more nice than a P2P client. If the MPAA wants to go after torrent sites, then someone should make it harder for them to do that. (VIA freenet)
