Amazon is hoping to fly 80lb behemoths over populated areas to drop things from about 12 feet -- while all-too-often crashing into things. Of course to be fair, how could a drone possibly avoid an apartment building or a crane (twice). Last time it was a ladder strapped to the roof of a van.

These things are not only dangerous but hugely uneconomic. Nothing beats a gig-worker on an ebike!

Given how much of modern manufacturing is fully automated, why couldn't US companies compete on a level playing field with Chinese ones?

Tariffs simply allow domestic manufacturers to reap higher profits and/or continue to use inefficient processes to create an equivalent product.

Perhaps the motto of the USA will eventually become: "Tariffed into mediocrity"

These drone delivery services that have to operate in line-of sight and comply with a gazillion FAA regulations are doomed to failure. You could deliver the order faster using a trebuchet over such distances and with fewer liabilities or costs.

Manna Aero has moved to the USA for its trials because it effectively had so many problems in it's home of Ireland and Just the other day another 85lb Amazon drone crashed and burned.

Given the costs, both from a hardware, labor and systems perspective, they'll never compete with a gig-worker on an ebike.

I wrote a lot of assembly (back in the day) for both the Z80 and the 6502. The Z80 was like a Mac truck. It had some really powerful instructions (LDIR etc) and a great register-set but the 6502 could be a lot faster on one condition -- that you had space available in page zero to exploit the indirect addressing mode that relied heavily on the first 256 bytes of RAM. The Z80 had the advantage that it had on-chip support for refreshing dynamic RAM so systems with more than 4K or so of memory were much easier and cheaper to build using a Z80 than a 6502.

If you were building and programming a system from scratch then the 6502 was the obvious choice but if you were programming a "store bought" 6502 system such as the Apple, Atari or Commodore, many of those valuable first 256bytes (page zero) were already in use by the ROM-based system software so things became a bit trickier.

The peak demand comes -- right at the time we'd be getting near-peak from solar.

Why isn't the USA focusing more on having people fit solar to their houses with a battery and inverter. This would take the load off the grid during these peak-sun/peak-demand periods and sure-up the grid.

This is one of the few times that the output of renewables tracks demand so why not?

Just don't buy these crappy licenses. Retro-gaming is booming for a very good reason.

And, if you're looking for another reason not to buy -- the way hardware prices are going, retro emulators are probably all we'll be able to play soon because nobody will be able to afford the GPUs and RAM needed to play the next wave of new release games anyway.

Delivering "late" is not delivering at all.

For example -- "The Roadster 2 is going into manufacture *this year*" he said, several years ago.

For example -- "We will have humans on Mars by 2024" he said. Even if he eventually does deliver humans to Mars, he still broke that promise.

Saying you're going to do something by a certain date and then not doing so constitutes a broken promise -- even if you do it a decade later.

Of course Musk is a genius... those who say otherwise are idiots.

After all, how else would I be enjoying my FSD Roadster 2 that charges from my solar roof-tiles before the drive through a Boring Company tunnel to the Hyperloop terminal where I'm whisked off to the SpaceX launch-pad in anticipation of a Starship flight to join some of the others who set up that initial Mars base back in 2024.

Those who say that Musk is a snake-oil merchant who doesn't deliver on his promises are just deniers who simply choose not to see the reality of the world as it is today.

I think xAI is falling behind (does anyone using Cursor use xAI as a coding agent?).

Perhaps this is Musk's way of buying market-share for a product that's really failing to perform right now (xAI).

That's $60 billion today (with SpaceX stock near $170) but how much/little will it be in 2 year's time? If I was Cursor, I'd be wanting a fair amount of cold, hard cash in that deal :-)

Why aren't they putting this information alongside the thumbnail so we can totally skip AI content if we want to. Only finding out once you've clicked on the video and the player has loaded is stupid -- being both a waste of the viewer's time and bandwidth.
