Comment Why not just start making SIMD computer architctur (Score 1) 59

A PC with a Graphics Card used for AI/Crypto/additional calculations and not actual graphics, is in general a SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) system much like the MASPAR system of the 1980's and 1990's. Being that we are using these for non-graphics related tasks, I would assume that we could make a better architecture that would aid in AI calculations much quicker than GPU perhaps tuned for the tasks that it is heavy on and not wasting space and money on features that will not be used.

One can argue, someone who is really good at their job, often makes it look like it was a zero effort work.

Say you watch a cake decorating video, you are like, I can do that too, super easy. Then when you actually try it, you end up making a big mess.

Or heck at work, there are often problems that are spinning around all the business sectors as something unsolvable, when it comes to be, I do a 5 line script that will do the job. I can show that script to non-IT folks and they may understand it, and make sense. However while they can see it and understand it, they didn't create it, nor would they have without me.

Photography actually has more creativity than you think.

For example on the news, you can have photos from the same event, while providing evidence for opposing narratives.

A burning garbage can can look like the only source of warmth for a poor sole who is struggling to survive. Or it could show a wraith of damage of public property by violent and unpredictable group of people, who are burning down the city.

Or a small group of people can look even smaller, or much larger. All with cleaver photography.

With the use of lenses, zoom, focus, camera angles. a picture can tell a different story or show a different side of things.

A great Ideology will fail with a poor implementation, a crappy Ideology if implemented well can be very successful.

While money isn't the only factor in a good implementation, it defiantly helps get it going, and lack of money will be implementation extremely difficult.

Also as a general world wide protest against China, it seems like every nation is trying to get into semiconductor business as well. Which would cut down on the exports from their country, as every country will have their own.

It might have been an easier job, if they were able to work with their neighbors, pool resources employees, as well be able to spread some risk, with other EU states, that would have benefited from an updated UK network.

But they decided to have a fit, because their democratically elected representatives didn't always get what they wanted.

No, About 50% of the American Population has below average intelligence for Americans.
Then combined with over a century of science fiction making AI, the bad guy as it makes a good story plot. Our culture is indoctrinated into the idea at AI is dangerous, and 50% of the population lacks the ability/will to compare and contrast what the Fictional Stories state, vs what is actual state. As well all of us (smart and dumb) will believe or disbeleave information not from logic, and science, but from if we trust the source or not. (unless we are actually willing to do the science ourselves to verify or reject the posted idea, in which people who trust you will believe it, and those who don't will reject you)

The wealthy have access to many mass communication methods, thus they are able to convince a lot of people to think the way they want them to think.

Benefits and Billing, handled by Revenue Cycle teams, at the healthcare institution. The other features dietary advice, medication reminders, pre-op and on boarding are done by registration and sometimes nursing staff.

Doctors think they know those areas, but they really don't, as they get very complex very fast, Insurance and billing in the United States, is miserably complex and it isn't our IT systems (which many for Medical Billing are really old and out of date) that create patient stress and issues, it is usually the Insurance Companies they find new ways to block coverage.

A friendly AI going I am sorry, but your insurance company decided to not pay for coverage of an pre-approved surgery, because your employer canceled your medical insurance for the week you took medical leave, so you owe us $30,000 but don't fear we can give provide a discount so you will only have to pay $12,000 with an easy installment plan of $1000 a month, for 1 year.

Well some people don't have much of a choice. They cannot afford a reliable car, but have acquired one of these vehicles for cheap. Say from a a family member who passed away, or just wanted to get rid of that vehicle.
In college, I drove a 3/4 ton pickup because that is what my parents gave me to drive. The truck was originally used for farming the family farm. Gas prices where considered high then, as well I understood the environmental impact, but I didn't have too many options.

Also people are flooded with a lot of Advertising telling them that they need that Big Vehicle, as it will be the only one that can drive in the snow. Then combine with the fact that everyone else drives something similar. Then you get the FUD from the Oil Industry making people afraid of Electric Cars, or even Small cars.

I wouldn't judge ones virtuousness levels from what type of car they drive. That guy Driving a Tesla Model S Plaid, may not give a rat shit about the environment, and charge up at home off a coal burning generator. He just wanted a fast car.

The mRNA vaccine isn't as new as we think. It was studies for about 20 years prior to it being released for the Covid vaccine.
It wasn't used previously, not from general safety issues, just that traditional vaccines had their infrastructure in place, and its general slower time to develop matched the demand for it.

Covid spread very rapidly. where mRNA allowed for a faster deployment (as it didn't need to grow the virus), as well it allowed the information to be send to be created without needing a sample of the virus.

If you have a self driving car, and there are ways for you to override it (steering wheel, breaks, accelerator...) as well you have been licensed to drive the car, and requirements for the car to be managed by a licensed driver. Should be responsible for mistakes that cars AI might do.
However if the company removes all ways to override the AI, then that company should be responsible for any issues.

So while I operate my Self Driving car, and I get into an accident, I would be liable, because I had the opportunity to override it. However, if my Self Driving car had the ability to drive itself without a driver (say parked out of site, and programmed to drive to me, without having any controls) and it gets into an accident, then it would be the software makers responsibility.

A lot of the layoffs, came from big named companies, who spent over a decade of trying to get talent, so their competitors don't. Not because there were any demand or business need.

Smaller companies now are able to get employees, and I bet these employees may be happier working for a smaller company. Where they have more control on what they do.

Comment Welcome to the could and pocket dumb terminals (Score 1) 44

I am typing this on a laptop with an Intel Core i7 8th gen processor, which is 5 years old, and still massively overpowered. Why because most of the stuff I do, is hooked to the cloud and handled over the web, or an application which has the web browser built in, or does internet calls to some server somewhere which does the processing and gives me the results.

I have no needs for an upgrade, and I even don't care what OS I am running on anymore, or even what browser. Because it is in essence just a dumb terminal, for a server based applications. I use my laptop because I like using a keyboard, and the bigger screen, but I can get by with my phone as well.

The biggest upgrade was the NVME storage. now that my computers (including my phone) are all solid state, they don't break, the 4k screens really don't run into resolution issues... Why upgrade anytime soon. My 3 year old phone, which is paid off is still fine too.

It is more like, someone grew up, and everyone and society told them, they should get into Leather Work, as there will always be a job in Leather Work, so you study and practice to be a really good at leather working, then you get a good job waving buggy whips. A booming market for the first 25 years of your life, then the Automobile came out, no need to worry because they still needed buggy whips, in case they broke down or ran out of gas. By year 30 when you considered too old to change career, but too young to retire (say you are in you early to mid 50's). What makes it worse, you had invested in your life style for a buggy whip weaver salary, with decades of experience. Now you will probably need to find a new career, and that career will bring you back to entry level again. Paid a lot less.

Does this person have other options, sure, but they too have their own risks.

On the Macroeconomic scale, these improvements are generally a good thing, and open more jobs in the future, however this will hurt individuals in which we should consider and try to build a graceful migration. Because history has shown us ungraceful transitions lead to a lot riots, wars, voting in idiots who say what the people want to hear, vs what really needs to be done.
