Comment Re:Is Comey still in charge of the investigation? (Score 1) 822

Yes. However the memo from Director Comey makes it appear that the investigative team doesn't want to let Clinton off the hook. This confirms the anonymous information given to Fox News that the investigative team was very unhappy with the final choice by Comey and the DOJ.
They could also be doing their due diligence.

1. It was the media saying that they were reopening the investigation.
2. Based on the memo, the investigative team members are the ones that don't want to let Clinton off the hook since they briefed Comey and he agreed with them that they should take investigative steps.

Submission + - FBI reviewing new emails in Clinton probe (cnn.com)

mmiscool writes: FBI Director James Comey said Friday the bureau is reviewing new emails related to Hillary Clinton's time as secretary of state, according to a letter sent to eight congressional committee chairmen, a surprise development with 11 days until the election.

After recommending this year that the Department of Justice not press charges against the Secretary of State, Comey said in the letter that "recent developments" urged him to take another look.

"In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear pertinent to the investigation," Comey wrote the chairmen. "I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation."

"And, there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be, by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume."

We saw the fanning of flames after 9/11 and it consumed us to the point of severely damaging the nation. We as a people compromised our principles and public opinion was manipulated until the result was complete after which public opinion was allowed to flow freely again. Prior to the creation of the internet, public opinion has been controlled and manufactured. It still is but the effect has been lessened due to the widespread access of information. It is the free flow of information that allows people to recognize what is happening and attempt to fight it.

My description came from other neuroscientists as I linked so I would be happy to hear something counter to this current understanding of how brains function but for now I will take printed word over yours. I still stand by my point that you have no more grip on reality than those others. I am not entering into the discussion about the effect of money/wealth on behavior as it seems I would be already behind.

What I don't understand is why you need to keep bringing me into the discussion. Clearly you can't just discuss something without showing your irritation with others who disagree.

The reason why I kept bringing you into the discussion is that I assume people want to be treated the way they treat others so I was treating you accordingly. Your assumption about me is wrong. I love discussions with people who disagree with me because it opens up perspectives that I have not considered and I have no issue being wrong. Your comments however to myself and others on this thread were condescending and dismissive. That is not conducive to discussion. Maybe that was my fault, I started our conversation in a sarcastic tone which probably derailed it. I apologize for that.

Clearly I can't debate you because you have already debated both sides of the story in your head and with others who are not me. The point of my sarcastic original response is that you have no more grip on reality than others who are rich and famous. Consider a reduction of what we know about ourselves and reality.

From http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...
There is a chain of events to follow, Sherlock Holmes-like, from the red rose you gave your beloved, beginning with everyday reality and reducing it, step by step, to get to the source:
The sight, smell and texture of a rose (i.e., the experience), reduce to...
The brain assembling the picture of a rose from various regions dedicated to sight, smell and touch. This reduces to...
Neurons in each region specifically processing raw data into the qualities of a rose (known technically as qualia). These reduce to...
The supporting molecular structure that keeps a neuron alive. This reduces to...
The atoms that compose those molecules. These reduce to...
The subatomic particles (quanta) that structure atoms. These reduce to...
The quantum field that gives rise to quanta.
Science cannot yet explain what happens past this point and where the the source of this quantum field comes from.

So when you say these people have no grip on reality. I am saying that neither do you. We understand reality through how we interact with it and thereby change it at the same time. That reality seems to exist outside of us in the same way that physicists perform experiments and achieve similar results however people aren't consistent tools of measurement.

Lack of empathy, poor decision making and faulty can be reduced by other factors such as the assumption of intellectual superiority. I don't suppose you would know anything about that though.

Your original comment is an ad hominem attack on the "rich and famous people" who engage in discussion about ideas you seem to deem unworthy. Seems like you don't like being judged the same way you judge others. That is a double standard.

Submission + - Hacker-Proof Code Confirmed (quantamagazine.org)

An anonymous reader writes: In the summer of 2015 a team of hackers attempted to take control of an unmanned military helicopter known as Little Bird. The helicopter, which is similar to the piloted version long-favored for U.S. special operations missions, was stationed at a Boeing facility in Arizona. The hackers had a head start: At the time they began the operation, they already had access to one part of the drone’s computer system. From there, all they needed to do was hack into Little Bird’s onboard flight-control computer, and the drone was theirs.

When the project started, a “Red Team” of hackers could have taken over the helicopter almost as easily as it could break into your home Wi-Fi. But in the intervening months, engineers from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) had implemented a new kind of security mechanism — a software system that couldn’t be commandeered. Key parts of Little Bird’s computer system were unhackable with existing technology, its code as trustworthy as a mathematical proof. Even though the Red Team was given six weeks with the drone and more access to its computing network than genuine bad actors could ever expect to attain, they failed to crack Little Bird’s defenses.

“They were not able to break out and disrupt the operation in any way,” said Kathleen Fisher, a professor of computer science at Tufts University and the founding program manager of the High-Assurance Cyber Military Systems (HACMS) project. “That result made all of DARPA stand up and say, oh my goodness, we can actually use this technology in systems we care about.”...

The Coptic word for simulation Hal was used quite frequently in Gnostic texts such as the Nag Hammadi Library. The Archons who were subservient beings to the demiurge used the power of HAL (Coptic for simulation or illusion) to keep spirits trapped in the material plane of existence.
