Comment I called this for YEARS! (Score 3, Interesting) 48

Many businesses need/want Exchange/Outlook and Excel; M$ knows this. So, M$ uses monopoly-like powers to install or offer products as a "bundle" at prices competitors with a narrower offering cannot match. Outlook and Excel desktop apps are still probably the driving factor for Windows OS usage as well, for business deployments. "Teams is free with O365" is why a company I know is trying to minimize or eliminate their entire Cisco voice and WebEx footprint. The only real problem is old copper telephone lines, some emergency phone regulations and a call directory.

I have often been down voted for bringing this up, now a very large government points out M$'s unfair bundling tactics. I hope they review decoupling Windows desktop OS license as well.

It's quite annoying that Comcast/Xfinity thought it was a good idea to co-opt a naming standard and apply it to their service/hardware. They are completely relying on most Americans to not realize it's simply a marketing trick to make you believe they are ahead of "5G" speeds/technology.

Who "owns" 4G, 5G branding/naming? Is it trademarked? Could Comcast be forced to stop this kind of misleading marketing? Could I launch a competing 11G internet service?

Looks like a new acquisition plan:
1. Evaluate a company to buy or license tech
2. Which is cheaper A) Poach employees or B) Buy company or C) License tech?
3. If choice "A", make sure they cannot compete against your legal budget.

No one in charge of the levers of power is going to warn a recession is coming and there is little they can do about it. That alone may cause a recession, in part, because greedy bastards will try to cash out and minimize losses ahead of a recession that may or may not happen to an unknown extent. If I have to pay more than I do now simply to avoid adds, I will simply avoid their service. So much of what HBO Max offers is produced in-house (Warner Bros., DC Comics, Discovery etc), that I'm directly paying them to deliver content they created, not ads.

I nearly replaced my Shield Android TV devices when they turned into add platforms, but it's hardware and I mitigated some of the obtrusiveness.

I may as well go back to cable TV if this continues across the industry.

At a high level, I agree with Google, but I think it's more related to bundling because so many business won't do without Excel and Exchange/Outlook.

If the MS Office suite was owned and sold by a separate company, the Azure platform may be less attractive with all the bundled stuff you get by simply subscribing to M365 licenses to get Excel and Outlook.

MS leverages this to offer discounts or making restriction on other platforms.

Also, why is there an Office version for Mac but not Linux more generally?

From my simple understanding, this allows AI to show you "important elements" (text and faces), over "non essential" elements like scenery without requiring new hardware or codecs. Am I right? That's neat, but can I turn it off?
