Comment Re:Justification for costly IDE? (Score 1) 169

You might want an IDE if you develop larger projects and not toys for your own amusement :-)

Seriously, there is a huge difference between throwing together some minor code for doing some quick analysis and having a multi-person team developing larger solutions for large enterprises.

Now that's a weighty argument. Well done sir. 'Cause, as we know, there is nothing that separates the two other than design. Sigh. Google QNX, for example. Linux vs a lot of other stuff reminds me of the VHS vs Beta "fight". The best quality doesn't automatically win.

The reboot started with Ronald Reagan, where he had his agencies deny the existence of acid rain, pushing the fantasy that his religious hallucinations were as good an explanation of life on earth as is Biology etc. Donald Trump isn't an aberration of the GOP, he is the inevitable conclusion of the pushing of infantile superstition into politics.

Seriously? So, according to you we should ban people having cheese on sandwiches, using the word "the" and loving cats? You do understand that the purpose of the ban is to reduce the number of people who die, right? The problem with church gatherings is that they are, more than almost anything else, super spreader events. It turns out, and we don't know why yet, that singing in close quarters is a huge issue when it comes to spreading the corona virus, while, for example, large outside gatherings tend not to be.

Here is what you said

Have you tried building a significant website using just the open source portions of Microsoft?

I asked you what specific problems you had with the open source portions of Microsoft

You replied with

integration with MySQL and EntityFramework ... What database do you use

I responded that I use Oracle in most of my projects, the reason being that in the enterprise where I work, the two main databases used are Oracle and SQL Server. For some reason you then come back with "Oracle isn't open source", and while this is correct, you might as well have pointed out that Santa Claus is not real. The choice of storage technology has nothing to do with "the open source portions of [the] Microsoft" framework.

My recommendation is that you try to stay on point. So far you have claimed that building a significant website using just the open source portions of Microsoft is not a great experience. When asked what problems you specifically had you have responded with one almost relevant point, the issues that may exist between EntityFramework and My SQL. Now, neither the Entity Framework (which I generally don't recommend you use) nor My SQL are part of the Microsoft web framework, and I pointed out that most articles on this will recommend against using Entity Framework. Dapper, for example, is a better alternative.

So, I will posit that your original claim, that building significant websites with the Microsoft framework, was difficult is based entirely on your ignorance and pre-conceived notions about Microsoft. There are a number of excellent frameworks for building large websites on out there. I used to do everything in Ruby on Rails for a while, and there is Nest.js which is superb and a large number of others. In my experience (and you clearly don't have much experience at building significant web-applications) DotNET Core, and now Donet 5, is the very, very best framework out there. It is as easy to work with and solve problems with as is NestJS, but it is as performant as Actix for Rust (meaning it is about 7 times more performant than the best Node frameworks). No other frameworks comes close, and your claims are clearly based on ignorance and your own mistakes. Tip: Entity Framework is not part of the Microsoft web framework, neither is it a particularly good ORM, though it easily beats Hibernate which is a monstrosity.

But hey, you can dispel any of my notions about your ignorance by pointing out any actual problems you have with the actual framework. I am not holding my breath though. I doubt you are able to point to any problems with it at all.
