Somewhere above somebody claimed FB is doing it every day and that is a sign it is possible and good - well I dare say FB web page is one of the worst web.2.0 pages I have misfortune to 'enjoy'. Maybe their back-end is good maybe not I do not care because front end is crap - maybe they do not release fast enuff. Then again this is a single target i.e. they do not have to deliver to many customers, different configurations, ensure no interruptions during roll-out test roll-out and roll-back and all other things that you cannot always automate. This is of course not to say that it is impossible and not feasible. It is but not always or even usually not. That is my vies. ymmv and agile gurus know better anyway (but have not even tried to understand what the hell the word means).
BTW: I work in the industry for quite a while and I have not seen one organisation that actually worked water fall. They did some silly planning sessions for projects predicting how many lines of code you may be writting 2 years ahead but actual design and test was done in iterative way which is as efficient as agile methodologies (ooops sorry I should have said frameworks) if not more efficient (in terms of combined quality, usability, project scope and time needed).
I believe in US this is called Lawful Interception.
As replaceability goes - everybody is replaceable that is true. Of course there are differences. If difference between you leaving and another one coming and moving along is small i.e. small cost then you were working in call center and being fired is not the way to think of it - you just got a new opportunity. Higher you go in salary and position more difficult it is to replace you but then hey - sometime they downsize sometimes you do not fit no more. Sometimes it costs lot if you live but company just deals with it.
Original concept was indeed to deal with the liabilities of corporations which before considering them a legal persons could kill or cause losses but could not be held liable thus causing trouble so they have been made liable by declaring them persons in law for dealing with debt. It was back then but It is different in US now (and possibly in Germany if you believe this but I guess that depends what courts will find) where corporations are now granted much more rights than needed to deal with liabilities. It is one of those things that simple in principle make your mind boiling and have a raising set of unintended/not predicted consequences.
Bottom line is : BBC seems to have done things right. EBU as a backup solution did well albeit quality should be much better. The service for which you pay (in Germany at least) was dreadful and there is no improvement in sight - I complained to ZDF and they just 'did not know' what disturbance would they be having and I am pretty sure this is not my last mile or home network that was at fault as I did try to access from different locations/ISPs. So shit as usuall and sheopple happy as usual.
This is OT but I find all these doped robots appalling - only few sports actually are enjoyable - teams sports are good (albeit football is just plain boring and without alco not enjoyable) - at least there is a chance that actual ability is not made up in a drug store. Archery was good. Judo and taekwondo is good to watch too and I do not believe they enhance their ability in drug store too much. Fencing was interesting too. Badminton was interesting also albeit for different reasons - I would not think there could be teams not willing to win the match for tactical reasons - good that they were disqualified. In fact after all the reports about the doping scandals and I had temptation to follow snooker only. These sportpeople are professionals of course and this is their job but then what do I as a amatour sportsman have in common with these robots? The feeling that with a bit of luck and hard work you can reach high level is gone after you look at results the professionals have.
It is also so funny to observe the discussion in German media about the 'targets' I did not know but apparently Germany set some targets for their athletes - this many medals in particular discipline etc I guess they should stop giving money away (to Greece, to the banks and football associations etc) and instead start funding schools instead then maybe they will have material on which they can work on. Having Germans doing efficient doping controls does not help of course.... Come to think about schools and what I see there - having all the focus on girls and 'girly' society is not doing the kids too much good - not much sports in the schools and they cannot run and enjoy the sun during the brakes - all must be orderly. I guess Germans do not want to have men with balls. No wonder their reproduction rates are falling so low (even if we immigrants are trying....).
It is also in direct contradiction with "if I have a hammer then everything is nail" approach
