Comment Re:Private Property is for the Rich (Score 1) 61

There are plenty of people in parts of the USA where this is a fact of life already. They rent everything including their clothes.
IMHO, this is unsustainable in the long term.
Will every store be a 'company store'? Probably.
Do you want the likes of Elon Muck to own everything in the world and you pay him (or people like him) tithes for everything you need in life?
You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said "Well, a-bless my soul"

You load sixteen tons, what do you get?

Sixteen Tons is a good glimpse of this future.

make that WILL drive them elsewhere. With a looming recession, IT spending will be cut to the bone if not hacked off at the knee. No company will want to be raped like this when their bean counters are literally counting every bean.
I am sure that some companies will bend over and take it for just as long as it takes them to move their virtualisation platform to something else. After year 1, I fully expect the VMWare customer base to shrink rapidly.
Broadcom could come to rue this purchase.

The operative word in your post is 'can'. There is a world of difference between 'can' and 'will' and 'do'.
With so many managers delighting in the fine art of Micro Management (sic) they need to see you working when they want not when you want to work.
With the inherently distributed nature of FOSS development, the pandemic was for most teams, BAU.
Yes, close source projects can run in a distributed mode but many can't as was shown by the upheavals of the pandemic. I personally know of five projects that totally stalled while they went back to the drawing board and reorganised their processes to allow them to work in a distributed manner. Two of those projects failed because of the micromanagement that was imposed on them by people who should know better.
Hopefully, the days of being measured by 'bums on seats' are over for good. With my current gig, I know that I'll never 'go into the office' as it is 6,000 miles (and a big ocean) away from me and I've given up flying. It clearly works as my contract has been renewed for another 7 months (6 months plus a one month vacation that I've had planned since 2019 and was postponed in 2020 and 2021).

Trump can be made to rant about windmills so easily. He says that they don't work. The man is so sad.

As for Marjorie 'Jewish Space Laser's Taylor Green... Telling the Transportation Secretary to basically G-F-himself and his husband is not helping the Renewables cause. She also wants more... lots more US Oil drilling.

Then there are the NIMBIES.

The USA is rapidly becoming an environmental pariah.
Meanwhile... the conflict in Ukraine is making previously sluggish counties focus on moving to renewables at a much faster rate.

God help the USA if the GQP take control of both houses in November.

The European Parliament IS Elected by the people across Europe. It can and does pass laws.
