Actually Hong Kong isn't truly China. This seems lost on you. When Hong Kong was returned to China after 150 years of British control the agreement was: one Country Two systems. They (Hong Kong) were to remain largely autonomous until 2047. This is why in 220 there were mass protests as China started to interfere and surveil dissidents, and those who spoke out about China.

But it's their country and they can do with it as they please.

This is innaccurate. I can't tell if you're ignorant or shilling. But either way you're making yourself look bad.

I doubt Disney would be spending insane amounts of money to extend copyright protections if the only thing that changes when the copyright expires is the public can distribute a single Steamboat Willie cartoon, they haven't been able to monetize in 70 years. There is something else, some other use they are worried about.

You are incorrect:

Republic: "A state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch." Democracy: "A system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives."
