I'm not complaining because "we always did it this way in the past and the new way is wrong" which you seem to think I'm doing.

Our vision did not evolve to see things vertically, that's why our eyes are side-to-side, in an horizontal configuration. Movies, televisions and computer displays went from having an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 5:4, to a wider 16:9 or 16:10 and now even ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratios and higher are gaining in popularity. The only thing we've ever done vertically is books and journals.

So to answer your question, everyone should care. Vertical videos are the complete opposite of what we evolved to see and smartphones users can easily rotate their devices to landscape mode.

If they gave us the option to disable Shorts and/or move Shorts to their own website/app, then they would at least have some metrics to show them a lot of their users consider Shorts to be as bad as spam.

Right now, it's like trying to watch action or sci-fi movies and being spammed with dramas and other bullshit.

If at least we had the option to NEVER have anything to do with this stupidity.

I'm on a desktop/laptop, I DON'T WANT TO EVER WATCH VERTICAL VIDEOS.
Smartphones are killing horizontal videos! Please stop this insanity!

The worst part is, you can easily use a smartphone in landscape mode. People are idiots and we're all paying for it. Both Android and iOS should block people from recording vertical videos!

I've just bought some Phillips warm glow bulbs but not yet installed them. Tunable color temperature in general would be great.

Philips does make warm-to-cold-white tunable smart bulbs. Their new models can be controlled by a Hue wall switch/controller/pad, via Zigbee, via a smartphone app via Bluetooth (if the bulb is not Bluetooth then someone's trying to sell you a really old model of bulb) and via a smart home hub (HomeKit, Alexa, etc). Surely there's at least one control option that will fit your requirements.
