Comment No mention of crop factor WTF? (Score 4, Interesting) 192

Notice how the 5dMKII pics are zoomed out? That is because it is a full size sensor. Due to sensor crop, the image produced by the other two cameras gets zoomed in by a factor of 1.6 or so. Naturally, you can see more detail if it is zoomed in. Also, the reviewer is talking about having issues with camera shake while on a tripod, has he not ever heard of a remote shutter release?

It is interesting to wonder how much process size vs. pixel density effects sensor noise, and Samsung certainly has some nice fab facilities.

Still this reviewer seems like an idiot or a paid shill. I’ll wait for something from DPReview.

        Microsoft dev here, the internal rumours are that early testing revealed just how many third party products that had code of the form:

        if (version.StartsWith("Windows 9")) { /* 95 and 98 */

and that this was the pragmatic solution to avoid that. /Stolen from soylent news.

I suspect it would be much more then 15%: Speak to any cabbie, they make the vast amount of their money on Friday/Saturday night, but work the rest of the week because the licence owner requires that. If random joe with a car that he uses for other purposes decides to make some extra money on the weekend, I suspect he will be able to charge much less.

I read about this one a while back:

It's pretty amazing how it works, I didn't know anything nearly this advanced was around until I accidnetly stumled across its wikipedia page.

I did exactly that and it worked well for the 120BG drive I tried it on. I attached a USB PATA adapter onto it, then a power supply that came with the adapter, put a ziploc bag around that, sucked the air out, put tape around the opening where the wires came out. Closed the freezer door with the wires sticking out and waited an hour before hooking the drive up. No point in doing it while the drive is out of the freezer since they heat up fast. Best to do it where the cold air comes out and turn the temp down as far as it will go too.

In my case, I think it was the electronics heating up that was the problem, not a mechanical issue, but it worked.

Submission + - Canadian songwriters propose $10/mo Internet fee. (windsorstar.com)

BitterOak writes: According to this story, Canadian songwriters are proposing a $10 fee to be added to monthly ISP bills, giving users a license to download music using peer-to-peer file sharing technologies for free, without fear of reprisal. The money collected would be distributed to members of a Canadian association of songwriters (SOCAN). The story doesn't make clear whether the license would apply only to Canadian music, or how musicians in other nations would be compensated otherwise.
