Comment So fix is to simply disallow apps? (Score 3, Insightful) 130

Rather than securing and hardening the OS against attacks they instead decided to just not let apps run at all, at least any app that doesn't have some magical pixie dust signature, which itself does nothing to prevent the app from being malicious other than making it slightly more difficult to disguise the identity of the malicious author.

Comment Fed is just jawboning the market (Score 4, Interesting) 152

The Fed will do one or two 1/2 point hikes and a few 1/4 but they won't raise real rates above 0%, ie the inflation rate minus the fed funds rate will remain well above 0%. They don't have the political stomach for causing a recession. Their strategy instead is to put the fear of rate hikes out there so the market does risk-off pivots as if rates were higher than where they'll land. That way the Fed has cover - they can point to modest hikes they'll actually do and say they weren't high enough to cause the recession.

Also, he's highly technically literate, has "fuck you" money, tends to get things done, is creative and regularly identifies and fixes problems. Is Twitter known as a company with a technical competence deficit? Rocket science translates to large-scale internet platforms? Is there something Twitter wanted to do that if couldn't get done with its current engineering team? I don't think "congenital inability to interact socially" is the correct description. So a man with multiple marriage failures and 7 kids between them is demonstrative of social interaction acumen? You just scored a touchdown in the opposing team's end zone. Btw, how difficult do you think it is for a billionaire to find a woman to marry him? How many times have *you* been laid as an adult? The article's argument against the iPhone amounts to the exposure lightening of faces, occasional motion blur from too slow a shutter speed, portrait mode blur for artistic effect (selectable), and the occasional unintended computational artifact. For Pfizer to meet its financial objectives. Otherwise there is absolutely no justification for it. The original booster provides excellent protection against serious illness. A 4th shot provides only very ephemeral protection against infection, counted in weeks rather than months, thus has no medical justification.
