I'm Gen-X. Sometimes "hostile" and "toxic" are the right words. I've run into one or two highly successful and charismatic CEOs who are borderline sociopaths. I'm not saying Altman is one of them. But just because the terms applied to him are nebulous, it does not automatically mean his critics are wrong.

I find your comment bizarre. CNN looks to be doing a better job than almost another at maintaining journalistic integrity. I feel like MSNBC and Fox are outlets for punditry and taking heads, but not CNN. Even the local Fox News programming can be pretty good. It's only at the national level that it Fox metastasizes.

If there is a better news source than CNN it might be AP or Reuters. Back in the day the Christian Science Monitor and Jane's Defense were great, but I don't have easy access to them. Are they still good?

The goal could be just to keep these kind of people employed so that we have these skills available in case the country goes to war or has some other crisis

Great programs can be written in almost any language, and just because one person is more productive with Python does not mean everyone will be more productive with python. I like using Python in place of bash scripts. I like Python for lots of simple apps. I've done a little data science with Python. Like any interpreted language, Python will call out to fast C libraries to handle the number crunching. Python will never be as fast as MKL BLAS at matrix operations. It is not supposed to be. It doesn't need to be
