That sounds sarcastic, but is true. How dare those lowlife engineers anyhow?

Its ‘plausible’ because of bean counters?

Gee, and here I thought it was plausible because their planes are falling out of the sky. Those silly nuisances can be so subtle.

Planes are best designed and built by engineers with the proper chops. When managers and Beancounters make technical decisions based on short term profits, the planes start to fall out of the sky.

MBA and bean counter decisions:

Outsourcing to Spirit Aerosystems. That didn't turn out too well, seldom does

Taking the 737 airframe and placing bigger engines (bigger diameter) that intrude into the airflow over the wings, which suddenly add extra lift in high angle of attack situations, which can stall the plane. This can be compensated for with trainer time, but in general, unstable airframes are best used in fighter jets, not passenger planes.

Modifying the flying characteristics to simulate regulr 737s to avoid pilots having to do trainer work. This was done to make the plane more appealing to potential customers. Sell more planes.

MCAS - the crown jewel of the MBA/Beancounter uber alles culture. Making the plane imitate the standard 737, and with a single, non redundant system, It was 100 percent designed to cheap out. And they didn't even tell airlines until a lot pf people were dead.

This diminishment of Engineers the ascendency of the MBS's and Accountants, and the diminishment of the planes themselves, as mere tools for profit, not the purpose of Boeing. And the results show it.

Perhaps it isn't that, perhaps it just looks exactly like that

Consider for a moment that perhaps you are not quite as smart as you think you are. There are a very few phones that have hardware switches to turn off the microphone, camera, recording features and RF capabilities of a smartphone. They are exceptionally rarely issued - only to the highest level people. And that, is most certainly, exactly what the fuck I am blathering about.

You take the phone, put it in the metal container and lock it, and take the key with you. You leave any portable recording devices outside the room. It's an administration issue, they can't control what is done on an iToy because Apple only permits themselves to control their users. There are a number of nice management suites for Android phones (although apparently the one they currently use badly needs an update). Apple of course refuses to provide any such thing, and will sue the pants off anyone else who tries. This is much the same reason why they only occupy a very niche position in the corporate world, there are scores of management suites for Windows and Linux but Macs are essentially unmanageable.

The issue with smartphones and computers when dealing with security is that for all of the peter waving between iPhone and Android, there is a whole lot more to handling classified data than what most people think of.

Smartphones have cameras, microphones and recording devices. If you plan to take them into a classified facility, they must be physically disabled. A very few phones have mechanical kill switches. But they are tiny little DIP switches, and are you going to remember, to turn them off or bet your career on the fact you may not have? Even with laptops and desktops, Windows or MacOS or Linux, if you cannot physically disconnect the camera and microphone, you have to disable them. We used to drill through them.

You can hate iPhones as much as you want, but try taking your Android into a classified facility just carry it in your hand as you enter, then when you get stopped, assure the the guard or security cheif that as an Android, it is a secure phone.

It may sound strange but it's actually not weird in the slightest. There's a long history of why Android devices would be better suited to the job.

Apple simply hasn't offered the same level of control over their devices and several Android vendors have.

Perhaps our Security department was completely wrong, but we had to put all phones of any make or brand, smartphones, flipphones any 2 way device in secure containers. If you brought one into a secure area, and were caught, you were given a security violation. The only way you could escape that is if you removed the battery - if it could be removed. Androids were no exception. No cameras, or microphones or recording devices. All of which are on Androids.

There are certain exceptions for high level people, but all of those things have to be disabled.

You always turn it off, because ET always tries to connect to a tower. In that little metal cage, it ramps up to full power, and drains the battery quickly.

The closest that nucs get to being a defensive weapon is the policy of mutually assured destruction, or MAD.

And as long as no nuts are in charge, that kinda works.

And there is a bit of difference between what happens in the USA and Russia. If you oppose Putin, you might accidentally get dioxin or Polonium soup with your salt and bread. That sort of thing tends to breed unquestioning compliance.

And for all of the bluff and bluster about old Donnie, I'd wager a year's salary that if he decided to launch a nuc attack, the generals have a plan to nullify that command if they determine that it is frivolous or demented. Our generals are not required to comply or die.

Nuclear weapons are only to be used in response to attack by nuclear or other WMD, or the imminent destruction of Russia.

What do you think about Burevestnik, Russia's version of SLAM? That's about as non-defensive as you can get.

If you are into such things, Project Pluto and SLAM are fascinating Here's a Youtube link to get you started https://www.youtube.com/watch?... A pretty fair number of vids there on that.

Back when the US investigated SLAM and Project Pluto, in the late 50's, they did prove that you could create a Ramjet engine with the heat source being an "air cooled" open reactor. The air cooling would be the air going through the Ramjet.

The project was eventually cancelled because it was batshit crazy. Actual tests of a finished SLAM would have radiation spewing all over. Even testing the thing was dangerous AF.

At to whether Uncle Vlad has such a thing or not is open to conjecture, but it isn't a defensive weapon for certain if Russia does have it.
