Thanks, I couldn't remember if I saw it recently on Ubuntu. I definitely recall it during the debian install I did the other day.

Debian and (I think) Ubuntu have a package called Popularity Contest which reports the package usage, completely optional and asks if you want to join it post installation.

Because this is something between the government and Google, although that's not the point I was making. The government were actively directing the ISPs in the trial to intercept peoples data. Google inadvertently captured a few packets of data that was actively being _broadcast_ in an unencrypted format. The only reason that my laptop isn't currently capturing my neighbors unencrypted wireless packets is that by default wireless cards are set to ignore everything that isn't addressed to them.

The point I'm trying to make, is what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Just because they are the government, doesn't mean the rules don't apply. Google screwed up, but it's not as big a deal as Senator Conroy made it out to be and they certainly didn't capture any banking details (or anything remotely usefull, go capture a couple of packets of your data using wireshark, you'll see how much a single packet contains).

Indeed, the only reason your wireless adapter in your device doesn't receive the data is because it _voluntarily_ checks whether it is destined for it or not.

It's not ok for google to inadvertadly capture minute packets of useless information, but it's ok for the government to direct ISPs to intercept data illegally.

The only reason I want to upgrade is to go bigger. The little 28" we've got, just doesn't cut it. Superficial "features" like 3D aren't remotely on my radar. I think the nostalgia of 3D (it's been talked about as far as I can remember), is more exciting than what the current reality.

To be honest, on the list of things that annoy me in life, lack of 3D isn't one that rates highly. Accurate depth perception would be far more useful!

Most salesmen I've dealt with tend to prattle on thinking they know more and that Brand X or Technology X is better. I can't wait for them to blab on about how I'd be much better off with the more expensive 3D tv.

Seriously, what is it like? As someone who suffers from a condition known as Strabismus, all 3D movies tend to do is make my eyes water.

All the big chains in Aus are promoting 3D TV's, I'm not looking forward to that sales conversation when I decide to upgrade my TV.

Well if you use an atom it's not _that_ power hungry and those little routers just don't have the memory/performance.

I know a few the tech support guys at my Provider, they're used to me sending logs from my BSD based firewall. A fair percentage of Modem/Routers are linux based anyway. The only real difference here is the termination is no longer a modem provided by the customer.
